BANGKOK: -- His Majesty the King has signed a royal command to strip Phra Dhammachayo of a senior monk rank, equivalent to a patriarch.

The royal command, which was signed on Saturday, was published in the Royal Gazette Sunday.

The command stripped Phra Dhammachayo of the rank of Thep Yarn Mahamunee or a patriarch rank on ground that he is wanted on a court warrant for allegedly laundering money and embezzlement.

Good move by His Majesty the King. At least somebody can do something. It will hurt the abbots respect in both the public and the followers eyes.

Which later can lead to that somebody give him up.

His majesty has sent a very clear message to the leaders and followers of

the temple that enough is enough,

It should be followed by the government declaring the temple as a no go ground should

the followers will continue wither defiance stance....

Dhammachayo stripped of his Royal title

BANGKOK: -- A Royal Command was issued by His Majesty the King on Sunday stripping Phra Dhammachayo of his title as Phrathep Yarnmahamunee effective as of March 4.

The Royal Command which was published in the Royal Gazette on Sunday March 5 and counter-signed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha cited that the former abbot of Wat Dhammakaya was charged with money laundering, acceptance of stolen valuables and several other criminal charges.

Also warrants have been issued for his arrest and he has escaped.

When asked about the Royal Command stripping Dhammajayo of his Royal title, several followers who have kept vigil at the temple said they would not care less because the elusive monk still remains their mentor.

Good move. This rogue monk has been involved in despicable crimes for decades, including the recent money laundering of the proceeds of the theft from the Klong Chan Credit Union which robbed people of their life savings.   Hopefully the monastic authorities will follow up and defrock him. The DSI and police should be ashamed of their failure to arrest him for months.

DSI moves on Dhammakaya Temple protest supporters as former abbot stripped of monkhood

BANGKOK, 6 March 2017 (NNT) – A declaration in the Royal Gazette has stripped former Dhammakaya Temple abbot Luang Por Dhammachayo of his status as a monk due to his evasion of arrest for multiple warrants and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has moved to punish the owner of Pa Seng Market for her allowance of Dhammakaya Temple follower gatherings.

Sorawan Sirisuntarin has been called in by Border Patrol Police Region 1 and ordered to appear with proper documentation by March 9 after it was discovered followers of Dhammakaya Temple including monks and immigrants were using her Pa Seng Market to gather for protests.

The DSI is also set to question all monks and clergymen present at the protest for information. The department has revealed an inspection of the accounts used to support the gathering uncovered a large amount of circulating funds and will be investigated further.

The actions take place as temple followers have continued to engage in protests at Khlong Luang Central Market as they are barred from entering the temple’s grounds by army personnel.

Meanwhile, a Royal Order announced in the Royal Gazette and circulated by the Office of the Prime Minister has officially stripped Dhammakaya Temple’s former abbot, whom is evading arrest for multiple charges, of his status as a Priest of Rank and of his monkhood. The order was effective since March 4 2017.

Very, very good move. One of wisdom and intelligence. It may be setting a positive precedent for the new monarch. This super freak monk did not deserve any title. My guess is that he possesses no special consciousness, or spiritual attainment. Just alot of cash, and alot of deluded followers.

Stripping this fellow of his (Royal granted) clerical rank is as pointed out a royal perogative. Going after him for alleged criminal activity is also justified, even if, as so often here I am sceptical about the motives for tackling "high end criminals"; but going after the owner of Khlong Luang Market because she has allowed protestors to gather there rather smacks of something else.

To DSI:

see how it's done? No announcement of plans weeks before, no publicized meetings with strategy discussions, no combined task forces leaking all over.

To klauskunkel:

we still don't see it.

The title is royally bestowed... seems logical that it can only be removed by a royal.

Yes, you are correct. This monk has had three Royally bestowed monastic titles conferred upon him over the years:

Phrasudharmayanathera in 1991

Phrarajbhavanavisudh in 1996

Phrathepyanmahamuni in 2011

according to the Royal Gazette.

Well done Your Majesty!

And now Mr Prayut should let check if the ground of the temple was bought legally and if not: let come the bulldozers!

There are usually some wrinkles that can be worked on, such as encroachment on public land around the edges of the plot. Go for it.

The royal title of "Thep" removed was from the 2011 bestowment. Wonder what about the previous bestowments.
