I suspect Thai banks will make sure of no unusual fluctuations. Check out the last few years. Maybe it may go down against the US dollar in the medium term if Trump persists in his uneconomic visions of a wall which creates short term wealth to infrastructure, but zip in wealth creation. Don't hold your breathe on a downfall of TBT against any economy in the medium term. Too many western countries have huge debt and it looks like the debt will continue.

An adjustment must be coming eventually.

No Never this county can set it as it wants the higher you pay for imports (imports) the more profit we can make, but what happens when the French (on wine) and others slap a 300% charge on Rice imports? Its coming as Free Trade rules in 2017 wakeupplease or is it to late

Just consider what would have happened if you were Russian and you bought Gold  before the Russian Ruble Crashed. Would you not have been better off? Even more recently the GBP with BREX! You would not have lost that 20% in value had one done that first. You would have gained 20% more GBP when you sold your Gold and bought that GBP back. I am not a Gold Bug but Gold does have its place and especially in places like China.

The United States still has an excellent credit rating! They do not have any trouble whatsoever selling their Treasury Bills. They will have no trouble at all raising the money they need if Trump decides to spend that on pet projects. Of this I am sure!  The Market knows this to. The US Dollars is still a safe and strong currency, and why it is high today compared to most others.

And India a few months ago. Overnight their government rendered 500 and 1,000 Rupee notes worthless. There are quite a few Indians a little fed up with that move. If they had owned gold they would have been insured against the government.

There is no credible alternative to the USD in international trade. It is on one side of about 90% of all of the zillions of daily forex transactions and most trade is denominated in USD's.

It was a smart move by the government that knew their citizens were avoiding paying tax, and hoarding 'black' money. The same should happen in Thailand.

That is plainly wrong! The value of gold would have had to increase by 20%. You would never make 20% on a currency by buying gold on currency fluctuations.

Best news I've heard in months  . . .

Compared to euro Bahts continuous going up up up up up up  ever since

I hope it weakens to an all time low! EUR/THB used to be at 53 THB..now 36.50. That combined with the inflation and it doesn't feel so cheap like it used to here anymore.

Eur/Thb didn't USE TO BE at 53Thb, it has been at that rate for a brief period 20 years ago.

So from your graph it shows that in the past 20 years it has touched above 50 Baht in 3 selective years, and even then only for a few months at most each of those years.

Is that your understanding of " used to be at 53 Baht" ?

Ok, my understanding is that you have reading and comprehension issues, and probably are trying to get in an argument because you "think" you know EVERYTHING about ANYTHING, since my post was in reply to another member ( as in NOT YOU) who tried to give the impression that 53 Baht to the Euro was the standard in the past 20 years.

The even worse state of the European economies.

For your information: In Europe they have the Euro.

The Dollar is American currency. Yep. Easy to confuse the two, I know.

Encourage foreigners to stay? Banning everything thats fun to do at Songkran water festival. No, the baht is weak because Thailand is bankrupt due to over spending by the ruling junta.

I will try.  The Baht is strong against all currencies. does not help exports or the Thai people, all around is misery,  jobs sure at 300 baht a day,no prospects ,no nothing. The chinese are bused around en mass, see how long that endures with Trump stomping on Chinese exports to the US,house prices/rents are crumbling,50 maybe 60% of up market estate where I am trying to sell,or rent,no chance....could go on but the gist is there, yes new cars galore  but Ill bet all on loans

I suspect all the woes you are seeing are related to trying to flog an overpriced property which you cannot sell at 50% of the purchase price.

House rents where I live have hardly moved in eight years, something I find positive.

Otherwise Thai exports are chugging along, most of the small family businesses that I see are doing pretty well. I do not see people in abject misery all day.

Yes seen the "expected" export predictions, merry comment in the BP about that, could make these quotes all day, whether true or not remains to be seen, especially from the likes of people that think the Thai language will overtake the English language and become wordlwide by choice LOL

Never have, never will buy anything here, but what I do see are owners attempting to hang onto their tenants by hook and crook  20% off next 3 yearly rental, mines coming up soon, the owner already making overtures, will settle at 30% off, thats a big if I even want to stay.

You must live up a mountain, empty shops, bars hotels are all I see, could not give a toss, have good income,so choice is mine
