vaccinations

Featured Replies

Hi People can someone tell me where in pattaya  I can get vaccinations ie (Typhoid,Hepititus,,Maleria, my mother is due to have a booster soon. is there a local clinic or is it only hospitals that can perform this and any idea of costs etc?thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as a vaccination for malaria.

Typhoid vaccination is not very effective and not really indicated for Thailand so unless your Mother will be spending time in a country where typhoid is prevalent, I'd give that a miss.

If she started but did not yet complete the Hepatitis series, she can get the next dose at any hospital. But need to be clear ad to what exactly she has already gotten as there are different vaccines and schedules. If she already had the full series, booster is not usually recommended.

So I am very unclear as to what exactly she needs.

In any case, vaccine costs will depend on where she goes, the least expensive being Pattaya City Hospital. Some very common vaccines may be available at government health centers, but not so sure re hepatitis if in fact that is what she needs.

In Thailand hospitals have outpatient clinics located  within them. So what people think of as a clinic, is found in a hospital here. There are also small stand along clinics to be found in Pattaya but quality can be an issue.

Suspect OP may be reading CDC page here - which does recommend Typhoid for most travelers if staying long term.

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/extended_student/thailand?s_cid=ncezid-dgmq-travel-single-001

They also mention malaria medications for some long term travelers so perhaps misread that.

If mother older would recommend shingles vaccine.  It is probably the most expensive but would be well worth avoiding the pain (or watching).   DTaP is also good to have and not that expensive.

He said "due to have a booster" which implies that she started a vaccine series of some sort before this.

Really do need more clarity as to what it is she needs a "booster" for as it is certainly not malaria. Typhoid is single dose (and as mentioned, of questionable need).  If she started hepatitis series then could indeed be due for more as it needs a series of 3.

Shingles is a single dose.

Agree unknowns abound - and OP has not returned yet to explain.  Expect it may just be catch up shots for old person like I recently had (but then again mother could still be young compared with me).:saai:
