Just bought a Garmin Nuvi 310 from Gadgettrend in Thonglor. Used it this

weekend and was happy with the results. Also with the bluetooth

feature for handsfree driving.

Only had a few problems with the search feature because of the different

spelling and some places were also misspelled. Have to get used to that.

Any areas in Bangkok that are not so well documented ? Any pitfalls

to avoid ?

No major problems. Apart from the misspellings you already note, sometimes my unit (Garmin 2720) gets confused as to whether I'm on an elevated road or not. It gets confused about Sukhumvit Rd as well. If I'm driving from Asok towards Ploenchit, in order to turn right onto the highway towards Don Muang, our unit doesn't reckon you can do that right turn, so tries to route you in a huge square going down Wireless. You get to learn its foibles gradually!

We used it the other week for a trip from BKK to Phuket and back - no problems at all, and I was pleasantly surprised how full the coverage was all the way down.

I agree with you....I, too, have the 2720 and have found it to be very useful. Yes, when driving on an adjacent road it sometimes thinks I am on the overhead motorway. Also, coming off the motorway (heading south) at Silom it doesn't think I can turn right. Even with its quirks it is well worth the money.

Also, on the some of the motorways where there are many exits it is best to follow the visual map rather than the voice commands.

I have the same issues with my laptop and im using the Mapking software and a bluetooth Sat receiver.

The only other issue is the fact that some roads here are BUS lane only in one direction, the map program doesnt know that of course and takes you to the bus lanes, result....ticket, hehe.

Of course there are no signs on the road telling you this fact in either Thai or english!

YES! This happened to me once as well. Luckily though, when the BiB told me I'd entered a bus lane, I showed him the pink line on the SatNav and started smacking it (doing the old "stoooopid machine" routine), and he chuckled and let me off.

Yes, made the same experience last nite. Driving on Sukhumvit towards Ploenchit to go to Foodland in Soi 5. Of course,

it's better to take the right "special " lane than to make a big round through Wireless and Nana.

But anyhow the system is good. If you are really lost it always finds you a way out.
