Is the Royal British Legion shirking from its commitments

Though the Royal British Legion has done admirable work in the past. I feel that it is potentially letting down a small group of service men, who may be prosecuted for actions during the troubles in NI  whilst I agree that no legal fees should be paid by the charity and that help is available for families affected , but the organization falls short in offering moral support for these men and their supporters for fear of being political, what a load of tosh  I for one will not renew my membership  . I have been a member for 30 years.

The mandate of the legion does not include engagement in the legal issues of the nature described. The Act of Parliament of 1998 that  set out the conditions of the peace agreement was vetted and debated at that time.  The legion had an opportunity to offer its views as did  the military and political groups.  You will have a  hard time criticizing the legion for its acceptance of the rule of law and the fact that wrongful acts must be addressed.

It has nothing to do with the rule of law, that is fair enough, but I feel the Legion should be more open in its support for these guys some of them are in their mid seventies.A total disgrace, it is a shame because the Legion has done some good work lobbying parliament on behalf of veterans causes.

It makes me wonder if the CEO of the Legion does not want to rock the boat in fear of loosing a gong that might be in  offering or is it  his salary of 160k per year plus pension and expenses, nice wok if you can get it.

Yes I am extremely bitter . but I will wear my poppy with pride in remembrance of all those who gave their lives and injured in all world conflicts.

There are plenty of other forces charities you can give to if you so wish, my RBL membership fee is going to SSAFA after 30 years membership I am finished with them.
