Hi People I,m approaching 40 yrs old and have a young family and spend a lot of my time here in Thailand after my trips offshore can anyone tell me the best health insurance people to go with my friends tell me bupa and the cost is about 2600bht a mnth  can anyone give me some advice or a view of a good company to speak with thankyou

I have pacific cross and I am happy with it. It is Thai based, accepted by loads of different hospital chains and pays in advance.

Cost: depends on age, in-patient only or both in and out, self payment deductible, coverage (Thai only to worldwide) etc.

Loads of brokers out there that you tell what you expect and then you can get quotes from different insurers.

If you think long term (I.e.retirement in Thailand), check premium raise and max acceptance date. Some insurers do expel you when you reach 70/75 years.

Use government hospitals. Much cheaper than insurances.

I was with BUPA Thailand for 3-4 years.  Every year they upped the premium by 5,000 THB and after a claim they increased the premium even more to offset the medical expense!! What's the point of insurance like that.  So I have been uninsured for 5-6 years and now looking to try again.  I'm thinking that some expat insurance companies in my home country (UK) may have better customer code of conduct.  HCI and Cigna Global both look good.

In Thailand I'm looking at MSH and Pacific Cross but being Thailand I doubt they have any regulatory body or independent complaints procedure if things go wrong...

There is a complaint procedure and a regulating body (OIC).

However, the regulatory framework -- in terms of what health insurers are allowed to do -- is much looser than in most western countries.  OIC does not give much attention to health insurance, their focus is more on vehicle and other types of insurance - understandably since so few Thais have private health insurance.
