NCPO aims to boost public awareness of new charter
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- In a move to engage the public in current political arena, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Tuesday resolved to build up public awareness and knowledge on the new charter.

NCPO deputy spokesperson Colonel Sirichan Ngathong said the NCPO also aims to give updates on the government’s administration performance. The awareness-building is part of a process in line with the junta’s road map to democracy, she said.

Other bodies under the “five rivers of power”, such as the government, the National Legislative Assembly, and the National Reform Steering Assembly, would work with the NCPO in building awareness on the new charter and on the government's work, she added.

But, surely the whole Thai population have a complete understanding of the Charter, they did after all vote for it in a recent referendum.

Or is he, perhaps, suggesting they did not understand what they were voting for, surely not.

Just a note that the "whole Thai population" did not vote. The draft charter was approved by 61% of voters with a 59% turnout or about 36% of the electorate. The vote was rejected in the pro-Thaksin Isan province and even more firmly in the three Muslim majority southern provinces. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_constitutional_referendum,_2016#Results

In the 2005 and 2011 elections the pro-royalist Democrat Party received 30% and 35% respectively of the popular vote. So it might not be a coincidence that the 2016 draft charter referendum received about the same vote for passage - primarily pro-royalist supporters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_general_election,_2011
