Boy Sound on Sukhumvit (left side going south before the Mitsubishi garage) almost as far as the junction with the 36 can certainly install. Not sure if he carries any "quality" dash cams but you could ask.

I used the car equipment place outside Tesco South Pattaya about 20 metres south of southern entrance. A good job at a good price.

I had something done there once but I would not go back.

I can recommend Boy Air & Sound. He tends to stay away from the Chinese junk, has many products from Korea. Talk to Boy personally, my friends have bought products and installations there and completely satisfied.

hi all,

want to bring this topic up again - was in many shops e.g. BoyAirandSound as well, no one have a front/rear dash cam including GPS. need to get it cleanly installed as well..................

Any ideas?

Thanks

Don't know which shop but I would go with the old fashioned & reliable GoPro. I'd get 4 of them. One at the front, one at the back and one on both sides of the car. GoPros are well known as being No.1 in capturing video on the go. Eg. for lots of action sports and rally driving, etc. use them. I'm not sure but I think GoPro is wireless so no need to mess about with wires.

I paid 300B for fitting the dashcam and they did a good tidy job.

The camera itself came from Amazon in the UK. Choice here is very limited.

I understand. Just thought I would mention my experience.

I did ask at a couple of places here before going to Bangkok. The best one I came across in Pattaya was this place: https://goo.gl/maps/gpX8w8WsbWH2

Though I was mostly interested in the car stereo side when I was looking here.

About 6 months ago, there were at least 4 shops in Tukcom that had a decent range including dual camera with GPS.

Note that the ones with GPS seem to be getting scarce since a lot of people have Garmin or TomTom and up-market cars probably have their own GPS.

Lazada online has a bigger selection although I will admit that since the Chinese bought them, there's loads of duplicate rubbish to sift through. Better to have a clue about make/model first.

FWIW, I found the dual-camera (no GPS) dash cam I wanted while shopping at Landmark in Udon but actually bought the same one at Tukcom, Pattaya. I installed it myself but it wasn't my first rodeo. Maybe buy the camera you want and take it to an installer like Boy Air or the one near Tesco-Lotus mentioned earlier??

thanks - i only need GPS in the dash cam to prove the speed driven either against police speed check points or accident claims - I do have separate GPS e.g. for maps......

I went to Boy Air & Sound for mine
Good job as always, fitting is free.

as mentioned above - they don't have the dash cam I am looking for front/rear including GPS (showing speed driven)

Boy 'Sound generally pretty good for most things. I did have a dash cam supplied & fitted by them a bit over a couple of years ago 5,000 baht.....then saw exactly the same unit in Tuk.com less than 1,000 baht....plus 500 baht to fit

Disappointing

My Thai partner tells me that the insurance company makes you jump through too many hoops to get that discount.

Mine won't offer one . Don't blame them.

I got mine without jumping any hoops. Thais give up too easily.

OK, what was involved and how much did you save?

10%. Provide a copy of the receipt and let the agent take some photos of the installed and working dashcam.

Pretty much aligns with several friends of mine up here in Isaan. Receipt of purchase and either a photo of it installed or drop by the local insurance office and they take a quick look, take their own picture.

So, only say its broken when you cause the accident.!!,,,Seeing as they have a no blame policy to Vehicle Damage, its major use is injury claims i suppose. We have cams in 3 Vehicles, but ill pass, not interested in debating anything. I pay them, there jobs to sort it.

Sorry.

There's plenty shops on Sukhumvit will install from what they have in stock or will install what you have already bought. It does sound like you will need to do a bit of your own legwork in that regard. Considering you started this search in April, it's a bit surprising that you haven't even worked out a specific model yet. That's easily half the battle and you could find that a self-installation is quite easy.

What make/model vehicle is this going in?

i would prefer to purchase the system direct from the shop and get it installed there as well - hoping to get less trouble in the case of failure or any issues regarding warranty

Boy Sound and Air. There's your answer.

I'm not so sure.

For my vehicle they removed the fascia panel and soldered in a power lead so that I would not lose the use of the fascia cigar lighter. Also makes it much neater than having wires and a big USB adaptor sticking out all over the place. I thought it was well worth the 300B I paid.
