The biopsy was negative, no infection, so that was good news.    She (Dr. Anna) prescribed Fucicort Cream, twice a day.       It's working and the rash is almost gone.

Thanks for the follow up. For informational purposes only, please advise the associated costs for this treatment and cream. Thanks and God Bless You. OO.

The original visit and biopsy cost was B 11,599.      The follow-up visit which included the meds was B 2,139.    So total cost was B 13,698 of which my BUPA insurance covered B 10,732.     So I was out of pocket B 2,966.

I had a small irritated area on my forehead that I went to the Dr about. He prescribed some cream, which did nothing. He then referred me to the skin Dr and she prescribed a different cream which did nothing. She then referred me to another Dr but i refused as it was costing a lot of money for nothing.

My solution, which worked, was to scrape the skin back till it bled. When it grew back problem solved.

Unusual to have a rash just on your left elbow, could this possibly be contact dermatitis?

A couple of years ago I had this weird rash all over my thumb extending to my wrist and that's what they said it was. Small bumps, red, itchy, annoying. Sorry can't give you the name of the ointment as it was Chinese but took ages to clear up.

Good luck and no harm in getting it checked out to treat the source of the problem. Cheers.

Yes rashes can be caused by an allergy to something. I developed an allergy to a hospital soap which caused a rash on my hands. Used a different soap and problem stopped straight away.

Unfortunately that solution doesn't work for STD's. Cheers mate and God Bless You. OO.

Got a long story I will try to make short.  I scratched myself below my stomach about 5 inches above my private parts. Started as a small scratch but got bigger, red, pus, obvious infection.  I went to a female Dermatologist here.  I had never been to a Doctor in Thailand and wanted to establish a relationship with a Derm. as I have had skin cancer issues in the past.

She looks at my injury and immediately tells me I have Herpes....  She said during sex the area got infected with Herpes.  I am no medical expert but I knew this was total BS.  The kicker was her attitude.  She just told someone they have a lifetime disease and she was smurking.  I asked her what now and she tells me to avoid stress.  No other precautions or information..WTH?????

I knew her prognosis was so ridiculous so I sent photos of the area to my Doctor in the US.  He told me I had a staph infection and put me on 2 antibiotics for 10 days.  Good I could buy them over the counter.  After the 10 days it cleared up.

For reassurance I was in BKK about a month later and went in for a full STD panel including Herpes.  Everything was absolutely negative.

So, how much confidence now do I have in the medical care here???? Take a guess..

Nice story.

Just for the record, while herpes is incurable, massive doses of Vitamin C may help relieve the symptoms. If interested, take 1,000 mg every 4 hours till symptoms go.

NB While normally any excess vit. C is excreted in the urine, in some people it may become toxic.

This'll make you cringe

The treatment of gonorrhea was disgusting;an instrument called the umbrella was inserted into the bladder via the uretha. The umbrella was then opened and the pus scrapped out.The process was repeated a few times. I guess it might have stung a bit. Makes a bloke cross his legs just thinking about it. That didn't work either. There was no cure until the development of antibiotics.

your lucky it's on your elbow.

never shave your pubes, thighs or upper stomache area with a blade any days before sex. herpes and other nasty stuff is easily transmitted into areas where the blade may have shaved off upper skin areas going over small bumps while shaving of hair.

Expensive....could have gone to a local pharmacy, showed the rash(or a photo) and walked out with the same cream for less than 100 baht......

Well, that's exactly what I did!       The first pharmacy recommended  Dermacombin cream which did nothing.   The second pharmacy recommended Dermovate, again no good.    Meanwhile my rash is expanding.      My third attempt at a cure was to visit a dermatologist, Dr. Anna at BPH (Pattaya).      I showed her the creams I had used.   Her concern was that I might have a infection under the skin that was causing the rash, since the two creams had no effect.      Well the biopsy showed no infection  and the cream she recommended, Fucicort, is working and the rash has almost disappeared.

I guess one can only speculate but had the first pharmacy recommended Fucicort cream, which is clearing up the rash, then I would not have gone to the dermatologist, would not have had the biopsy, which was negative, and would have saved myself B10,732.

Anyway that was the how things evolved and thanks for your excellent medical advice.

Most welcome. I think the biopsy was a bit much.  If it's bacterial skin "infection" put on bactroban a few days, then if you suspect fungus, use an anti-fungal.  There are even some such as quadriderm which combine several different creams in a blend.  The cream you are using now is just a strong steroidal cream...sometimes you get a quick response, but there is a risk of weakening the skin over time.  You could also have bought that yourself at a pharmacy.

Already been noted. I would have tried that first.

Might try Quadriderm. Shotgun approach but often works when you don't know exactly what the problem is.
