Thank you so much for your comments Hobz. For my part, it's been a real pleasure to help out.

I agree, your first port of call ought to be the original installers.

Good luck. I hope you'll soon be enjoying great showers.

I can see some benefit from trying to utilise the town supply as well as the pump system - however, with town supply alone (no pump running) it is sufficient to do what you want - ie, supply sufficient water to your taps, toilet etc. From what you have said seems like it doesn't - ie pump runs to refill toilet, garden tap insufficient water / pressure - this being the case - isolate the town supply from the house supply (as shown on Richcor  drawing  and run the pump for all  events) -- problem solved.

With time, town pressure might drop as new residents move in,,, two neighbouring houses are just being finished... so then the whole issue might resolve itself... just a thought... It feels somewhat good to use the town supply for kitchen tap etc not having to stress the pump... and I guess I can live with flushing the toilet for that maximum pressure shower.

Going to call the pump installer tomorrow and see what they can do :)

Good logic.

Problem with messing with the town supply/ check valve is, if you get it wrong you actually chance pumping your tank water back into the town supply and potentially contaminating the other tenants water.

If you fiddle with the pressure switch they will possibly know as it is ofter given a coat of red or white paint on the thread to stop it vibrating open or shut, and it will show.

Let the pump mob adjust it (or fit an isolating valve) as it literally takes two minutes and they no doubt have done this a few times before.

Your Plan B might even work about the problem sorting itself out as other tenants move in.

Yea, installing an additional On/Off Gate Valve on that vertical pipe, top left in image, teeing up to the the PIPE UNION, could easily be installed to allow the pump provide primary pressure rather than the Government Water Supply directly feeding the house line.

At least now you have a better understanding of how the system is plumbed, and what feature/options that design is providing, and the drawbacks.

How did you go Hobz?

Sorry, been a busy week at work.

Called the pump/tank installers and they said i should simply close the town supply slightly from the street where the meter is.

So basically their conclusion is the same as you guys. The town pressure is high enough for my pump to start running. By lowering the town pressure the pump will start running.

I feel like this is a sub optimal solution. Because it means that it takes longer to fill up the tank.

Anyway, last few days the pressure from town must have been lower because now pump has been running just from opening the shower.

Im still contemplating if its worth the effort to open the pump and adjust the pressure thing. Or even more effort, get someone to come install a valve.

How would that be possible? Isnt there a reverse block thing there?

*edit* ok, got it now, the check valve is the reverse block thing, yeah, sounds bad to mess with that one. But, nobody suggested to mess with it i thought. Just like you said, install a valve before or after it to be able to close the flow from town into the house.

Me too lol. I am thinking a lap pool about 1.2m deep, only a few metres wide and maybe 10 or 12 mtrs long.

Above ground in brick or inflatable?

I am a bit shy, you can go first.
