Cannabis use in Thailand began long before smoking Thai stick became popular with the hippies of the ‘60s. It was also a popular condiment and once a key ingredient in boat noodles. It was criminalized in 1937, when what would become a world war on drugs was dreamed up in the United States, with Cannabis suddenly presented as a dangerous, foreign influence.
