National Disaster Warning Center Says High Waves Are Caused By Cold Air Mass From China

Featured Replies

The National Disaster Warning Center chairman, Mr. Smith Dharmasaroja, pointed out that the cold air mass from China is causing unusually high waves in the Gulf of Thailand, and this occurrence should last until New Year.

Mr. Smith said the high waves together with larger quantity of seawater have damaged many properties in many provinces in the South such as Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla and Phetchaburi. He said the waves are approximately four to five meters high, and they have damaged many households and roads along the coastal areas.

Meanwhile, Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued a forecast that the weather condition today will improve, and the strengths of winds and waves will reduce. Nevertheless, officials are now aiding the affected residents and building the protective barriers along the coast.

From the Thai National News bureau

In Thai Rath they show some photos of destroyed houses in Nakhon.
