Yes it's very common indeed, but only if the muay thai/diving instructors are women as well. Sorry OP, you're outta luck if you're a man 

Its very common, I cannot speak for diving but happens all the time in Muay Thai. 

Bedding farrang women is a sport in Thai gyms. 

I married and now divorcing my MT instructor I met on Samui (big mistake but at least he didnt get to touch my money) The guys there quite often have more than one girl on the go at once. 

I am not fat, old or common btw....
