Fire destroys recycled garbage warehouse in Bangkok
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Early Monday morning a fire burned down a warehouse in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district that was used to store recycled plastic bottles and paper, with the 13 workers at the facility rescued unharmed.

Pol Captain Chaiya Buamas of Hua Mak Police Station said the fire broke out at about midnight and firefighters from 10 fire crews took about 40 minutes to control the blaze, but only after it had engulfed the warehouse.

The warehouse is located on Soi Phraram 9 off Soi Suang Luang 59.

A lot of used gas cylinders were also stored inside.

Rescuers helped the workers escape by climbing over the fence.

Phirathat Ngimjun, 51, the owner of the warehouse, said he was sleeping in his house when he received a phone call from one his workers and was told the warehouse had caught fire.

His workers said the fire was caused by a short circuit in an electric poll in front of the warehouse that sent sparks showering on to a plastic bottle pile inside the warehouse.
