It sound like a really good idea, especially in areas where lots of plastic are wasted.

The link in OP is about replacing (all or part of) bitumen in the aspalt mix.

Not long ago, there was another story running about plastic roads, where whole sections are molded and, stated in the article, can easily be replaced for maintenance...

Future Highways Could Be Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles

But some years back, I read about an American University that had invented a method, where granulated plastic bottles could be used as road material instead of asphalt; however, still at an early experiment state at that time. What I especially noticed was, that rainwater will drain through the deck of plastic granulate, which would be extremely useful at Samui; and if not for suitable for heavy traffic at main roads, then for smaller sois, and driveways, etc. I remember I shared the article in a forum, perhaps ThaiVisa.

A quick Google-search showed a similar article from December, 2010 – not the original one I read – note they use that kind of plastic bottles, which cannot be heavily used in other plastic-recycling, and therefore often end up as waste...

Old plastic bottles can be used to improve paving and prevent flooding

I've been said that with the garbage dump they have in Samui they have enough for a 20 000 kilometers plastic road, is it true
