The number of constituency MPs in Bangkok is likely to be reduced to 30 following the new Constitution, a City Hall deputy governor has said.

The initial conclusion was reached after a meeting between Deputy Bangkok Governor Pol Lt-General Amnuay Nimmano, Chainarong Thienmongkol – the election chairman for Bangkok – and the Election Commission’s (EC) deputy secretary-general, Metha Silaphan, on Tuesday at City Hall.

In the previous general election, Bangkok had 33 MPs for 33 constituencies, but under the new 2017 charter the nationwide number of constituency MPs will be reduced from 375 to 350.

The meeting agreed to reduce the number of constituencies on the eastern side of Bangkok to 21, and on the western side to nine, Amnuay said.

He explained that the matter had been considered on the basis of population density.

However, the deputy governor added that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the EC would meet several times more before reaching a final decision, and would then make an official announcement.

PTP won about one-third of the Bangkok constituency seats in the 2011 election versus Democrat's two-thirds.

It would be interesting to see if the Junta will try to gerrymander Bangkok districts to further favor the Democrats in the next election. If Abhisit concurs with the reduction or the PTP objects, then you have the answer.

Oh dear.. you only see plots and subplots.

Total number of constituency MPs will be reduced to 350 from 375. If BKK had no reduction you probably would have said it was to keep the PTP smaller. Don't you think its logical if you have to lower the number of MP constituencies that also BKK has to get less.. Now if all of the 25 that have to go went from the North and Northeast id understand your fears.. but this.. sounds more like you need something to nag about then that it is valid.

I have no fears and wear no political shades - just observation and supposition as to future events relating to the next election that will be directed by the Junta.

You as well must surmise what the reduction means as there is faithfully little information as to what the intent is for the reduction of Bangkok seats.

They are reducing the number country wide...... so it stand to reason that everywhere a few seats will be scrapped. If all seats where scrapped in the North and North east id see a plot.. and agree with you now.. i just see a reduction nothing more.
