You may be a British tax payer but you live in Thailand on a retirement visa so don't actually live in the UK. Sounds like you son took you on a tour of the worst parts of which ever town he lives in. I actually live here and as bad as it is how you describe it is not typical. You said "I drove past and saw queues outside food banks. I was told by my son, that many were not desperate, they were begging food then selling it cheap to buy drugs," And how does you son know. Sounds like a highly opinionated person to me. There are many working people who have to rely on food banks to live. I have never heard of people scrounging stuff from food banks to sell. Why would anybody buy food from a drug user when you could just go to the food bank and buy the food there. Yes nurses and other low paid rely on food banks. That is is what 15 years of Tory rule has done to this country. And before you say no I do not support Labour. No doubt I could be taken on a tour of the Thai slums, or any other country, then formulate an opinion of the country based on that. Attacking people unfortunate enough to need to use food banks and describing them as drug users is a pretty low blow. Plenty of drug users are well off and the filthy rich. Why attack less well off people as drug users. -

and comment by liquorice Bangkok Bank can update your book to the current date without the need of a deposit. I am not aware of any requirement to deposit the same day. It is not on the lists of requirements i got from chaeng wattana and Hua hin and was not required recently at hua hin. You can update the bank book at an ATM on the day of application then get copies made but, in my experience two times, if doing it early in the morning it may not initially show the today's date. Make sure that you check it. I re-inserted in the ATM and it then added today's date with the same balance as the day earlier. Check how long the stamped bank statement is valid. I thought it had to be same day, but Hua hin immigration told me it is valid longer. i cannot remember precisely how long they said, i was not bothered at the time. Find out at your immigration offiice. -
