THE FOREIGN Affairs Ministry is in the process of revoking the passport of fugitive Red Bull heir Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, spokeswoman Bussadee Santipitak said yesterday.

She said this action was in line with the ministry’s regulations on passport issuance.

Meanwhile, police will contact Interpol to hunt down Vorayuth, Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn said yesterday. He said police had finished almost all the paperwork involved, such as translating the arrest warrant for Interpol to track Vorayuth down.

Vorayuth escaped an arrest |warrant over the case in which he is accused of a hit-and-run collision in Bangkok that killed a police officer in 2012.

Sanit said that, according to the Immigration Bureau, Vorayuth came to Thailand on April 23 and left for Singapore two days later. It is still unclear whether or not he left the city-state.

However, following a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Ministry |representative and Foreign Affairs Division Police, Sanit said that Vorayuth’s passport had been revoked, while Interpol would help Thai police arrest him if captured outside the country.

Not wanting to appear cynical, but one assumes the delay was to ensure he had received his new passport from <insert country with easily obtained citizenship> before pulling his Thai passport.

Closing the stable gate after the horse has already bolted. Should have been done a long time ago.

Government saves face by making out that now he is gone, that they actually care.

Thaksin has been running around for years with a revoked passport. He just paid off some governments and got a couple new ones. What's stopping this punk and his family from doing the same thing?

I'm always amazed why the media chooses to use a 5 year old photograph of this character when there are quite a few more up to date shots available, mostly showing him enjoying his freedom in the U.K. and at F1 races..

Nothing. And they probably have.

I can't imagine that he hasn't already.

Now all he has to do is manage to stay off social media and stay out of any country with an extradition treaty and he's good until the statute runs out.

8 times this turd failed to show up. Then they let him stroll out just before he was supposed to turn up for his last chance appearance. They procrastinate with his arrest warrant and they now do the same with his passport revocation. And we're told they're doing everything by the letter of the law.

Apart from beach chairs, lottery numbers and cherry picked corruption cases - what's changed here?

You clearly have a downer on the Junta, I suspect you are just looking for negative things to say about them, as you neglected mention the "Jewel in the Crown" of their achievements BICYCLE LANES!

You don't have to pay off governments to get a new passport many countries offer relatively simple and cheap schemes to gain residency and passports.

You can not purchase obtain or acquire a foreign passport if you have an interpol alert. The delay in issuing such alert will enable him to obtain one easily but that will not enable him to avoid international arrest.

MINISTRY OF F.A is considering or pondering it's action;why not revoke his passport immediately? ?

Actually, many countries issue passports for a fee......no doubt this guy will have already obtained one......then again, he may also have a new Thai passport.

As his family is right up there at the top of the chain, who knows...although it would be a massive negative on Thailand if so!

A positive move on the part of the authorities. Dee! (good)

He should have faced the charges a few years back. All he's doing now, is aggravating the situation even more.

Interpol. Passport revoked. Abandonment...

It's not looking good.

Taking responsibility for ones actions, is seemingly thin on the ground here.

Sanit said that Vorayuth’s passport had been revoked,

Anyone else dizzy and confused over this? Taking his passport away would be like taking away one of his credit cards. Would not bother him one bit.

Foreigners all in a froth over this- I wonder what the Thai take on it is?

Not our country, not our problem - do you really think the establishment in ANY other country is different?

Look how investigations into 'important people' in the UK and the US are being hampered at the moment.

It's the way of the world. We know its wrong but get over it.

Too little too late (as usual)! Just a face saving gesture by the Government (for the happiness of Thai peoples - guess it is better than a once a week TV segment).

The "killer" has escaped major crime by the reluctance of authorities to pursue him rigorously from Day one. The wheels of justice turn slowly for the powerful, the rich and the connected and very quickly for anyone else!

Maybe the "protector of democracy" is going to redefine democracy?  :whistling:
