Anybody know of any 4wd clubs round the pattaya area ? if not anybody interested in helping me start one ?

You don't need to be windscreen deep in mud to have an enjoyable day driving around off road, I spend many hours exploring back road's and tracks, if anybody els likes doing the same let me know !

I don't know of any 4wd clubs but I have seen quite a few 4x4 that are obviously used off road, judging by the number of people that have looked at your post compared to any replys it would seem nobody is interested in anything more than driving to the pub ! shame realy as exploring some of these back roads is realy good fun.

Since you are into 4WD, I will ask you what is the availability of old Jeeps (CJ5, CJ3B, M38, M151, etc) in LOS? I will be moving this summer & unfortunately, will have to sell my 74 CJ5 (restored to like new condition, naturally). post-39355-1167757839_thumb.jpg

I know Mahindra still makes a updated version of the CJ3B with a diesel motor, but I have never seen one in Thailand, and they don't show any Thai distributers on their website. I would guess there would be come old US military onesaround. Any thoughts?

There's a 4wd club that seems to meet regularly in Ban Chang (mostly Suzukis), about half an hour from Pattaya down the coast. They have competitions too, along the dunes. Travel to the far end of Pala Beach and there are usually a few jeeps about, just ask the owners. A lot of motocross action too.

Yes those cj range of jeeps are everywhere I wouldent worry about not being able to find one, you'll have the choice from good ones to a real rust bucket in need of total rebuild,

As livinLOS said many are 2wd now but there are 4wd's around, and engine's as he said theres everything in them, another one worth thinking about is a Toyota surf, coil sprung all round ! Ive even seen one with a Crysler 383ci in it !

Good to know. I won't regret it so much that I have to leave it in the US. Any old US military stuff around? That would be my preference over Suzuki & Toyotas, however, I know the old Landcruisers are certainly tough as nail. They just look a little goffy without the hard top and as an American, I would rather have some good old US of A iron. Left hand drive is a plus for me.

By the by, the price of that 74 Landcruiser is INSANE. You know what the say, a fool and his money are soon parted.

Welcome to the Thai second hand car market.. Look on the same site for a burnt out rusted wreck from early 70's for 200k.. Or a heap of an old thing for 600k..
