My partner and I are buying land north of CR and need to rent a home for at least 6 months while we build. Although I have searched real estate companies to help, i was hoping for some local knowledge and contacts via this forum. Cheers

Ask the Thai locals.

Your'e more likely to find a place by asking the locals in the area you want to temporarily live in.  Bare bones places from 4,000 to pre-furnished for 10,000 THB/mo -- that many Real Estate Rental places won't bother with because they want a cut.

Cheers RichCor - that's the impression I'm getting about the agents. Will follow up with locals.

How far North?

If you check into a local guest house for a few weeks, you will find that they will know everyone in the area and be only too happy to offer advice.

As RichCor says, estate agents want a cut and often a big cut which means the price to the Farang (even with Thai wife in tow) is higher.

Hi Flustered - thanks for this. Just signed up on land in Mae Kham today. Looking for rental home near airport/ university area.

Nice area. Close to town but far enough away to be private.

You should be able to find several very good guest houses near there while you hunt for a house so good luck and keep us all posted.

I will be returning to Chiang Rai next week and would be grateful if anyone knows of a 2-3 bedroom detached home for rent around the Ban Du area. Cheers
