It sounds like this has never occurred before.

Presidents JFK, Reagan, and yes, even Obama had back channels to Russia and Iran.

I'm not a Trump fan, and I wonder how many of these past presidents attempted to set up back channels using only Russian systems while they were private citizens.

The idea of having a back channel by itself isn't the problem.  The manner in which it was attempted is.

The first line of the first source says, "As the mainstream liberal left media begins anther assault on Trump’s imaginary Russia connections . . . "  Why doesn't it just say fake news?

Let's do some research on The Duran:

"The Duran – Media Bias/Fact Checking

Notes: The Duran is an online news and opinion source with a strong right wing bias. There is evidence they have posted misleading information and they have ... "

Let's try the daily realist:

Well, you may not be a Trump supporter, but you sure listen to dubious sources--or should I say "fake news"

And, I'll wager you missed a major point--back channels to other countries are commonplace, but when done by our president and/or his advisors they have been known to the intelligence community. And, even if they weren't; how does that diminish the need to investigate this fiasco?

Geez man, come on.  You're "not at Trump fan," yet you only read radical right wing rags.  At least be honest, you're a Trump minion.  Stop lying already!

Fake news about a fake president, OMG if he was a dog they would have kissed him goodbye by now and taken him to the vet.

Yes, Trump is a fake president.  America is slowly waking up to this.  Hopefully, more cities will join in...

[Congress may not be ready to launch impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump, but a growing number of cities and towns are trying to push members in that direction.]

Well, maybe he believes that Trump is way too far to the left.

Trump...the one trick pony. "it's all fake news". I don't know what will happen, he may serve his entire 4 years or he may not...but I do know that he has set the stage for a massive fall at some point in his future. All this nonsense is going to destroy him someday, maybe now maybe a decade from now but at some point all the stuff he throws out there is going to come back and bite him in that fat .........

"any other person" could be a spy/Russian agent.

Did I read that they were pointed to such an expert?

Not sure I'm understanding your question. Maybe the wording was wrong. Anyone who gets a security clearance should be well aware of the the the magnitude of trying to communicate secretly with a foreign government, or about excluding those contacts. It's a very serious issue that could would sink the average person. So for people who should know better to try to downplay it and say that backchannels are not a big deal is deceptive. Maybe the purpose of those contacts is not a big deal. But if he tried to hide those contacts and the reported attempt to use secure Russian comms to prevent American intelligence from knowing what was said, that is a very serious and should result in his clearance being pulled at the very least.

While it  might  be true  that a  back door  communication  channel may be  practical for  an incumbent  administration it appears there  were suggested negotiations   during the campaign.   And that  makes it  less difficult to  believe there was no  conspiracy  to  sway the  election result.

Why the Trump administration can’t solve its biggest problems

So the White House can shake itself up all it wants. How much damage the Russia scandal does will be determined not by whether the Trump administration has a good “war room,” but by how deep it goes and whether crimes were committed — in other words, by the facts. Passing some meaningful legislation might help, but not if it’s as stunningly unpopular as what has been proposed so far. And as long as Donald Trump keeps being Donald Trump, its problems will never be over

Fun, maybe, but damaging to the USA and dangerous to the world kind of fun.

We really could do without it (and him)!

Of course I agree. But, I have alot of friends who are really suffering from all of this, and giving themselves real fits of anxiety. I would rather just watch it all with a sense of amusement, and fun, and watch this dimwitted numskull mouth off every chance he gets, and betray his lack of wisdom, forethought, experience, knowledge, or willingness to even be vaguely intellectually curious. Cheeto is doing all the heavy lifting for us. He cannot help himself. He destroys everything he touches.

Only thing fake about this whole sordid Cluster<deleted> administration is Trump and his band of idiots. :coffee1:

IMO, Trump has lost his grip on the "fake news" tag line.  It's not fake if the leaks are eventually borne out and confirmed as facts.  Although I would prefer not having the banana boat spectacle of all these leaks, and let Mueller do his job and present the facts, updates, etc., as is appropriate.   That alone would restore some faith in government, and that there's a coherent, professional process going on, rather than feeding the DNC/Clinton, and MSM's lust for revenge.

So fake news not only means fabrications, but also the intent behind them (real or fabricated) is not really "news", rather part of this extended political hit job to bring Trump down.  Drip Drip.

But of course, you just can't argue that Trump, in large part, did it to himself, and all those scorned hens in the media, and various government departments he slagged off viciously and undermined so publicly, are coming home roost.  Hell, even Grandma Hillary is getting in on it.

So, is the dumb old guy with the rake the Trump minion?  Or Beavis and Butthead.  It's not readily apparent, you'll have to specify.

So Beavis and Butthead are the jobless, obnoxious libtards of questionable personal hygiene, telling him to shut up.

Roger that, thanks.

No, I love Beavis and Butthead.  Or, well, I used to when I was a KID.
