Jomtien/Dontang construction

Anyone know the details? The trees in the parking lot are being cut down.  One rumor is the parking and beach road is being reconstructed.

The city did not have to collect the leaves from the old-growth trees each day.   Why?  Two reasons:  1) it was not necessary because they do not drop leaves all year, and 2) the beach chair vendors d

My thoughts are they just dont like the native trees that have been growing along the beach for decades...so "someone" has been awardwed a big contract to replace them all with palm trees !

This junta reminds me of F-Troop more & more all the time!

Maybe another (over)reaction to the death of that old Italian guy who was hit by a falling branch near the Jomtien Garden Hotel? They must have chopped down dozens of the old trees on the beach and footpath in that area afterwards. Perhaps some dumb Somchai in city hall has decided that these old trees pose a threat and has decided to have them all felled.

Fear of legal proceedings, perhaps, if someone gets hit by a falling branch and doesn't get killed outright.

I've noticed also that they took out the motorbike parking lot just northwest of Thappraya and Beach Road, interesting.

Today the parking area has been cleared of all trees(including old growth) and existing palms near the roadway have been trimmed,  relocated (temporarily?) to the sandy area that was the "free" beach. I see pipe (sewer?),  and a consession owner told me this was the next phase of the "beautification" project. The current construction zone is from the parking area (by the police station) going north to the first public toilets.

Probably a lot of folks out of work right now.  I guess I'll steer clear of this for awhile.

You should have called this Thread the rape of Jomtien Beach.

But I must admit I like the new outdoor free gym next to the police box.

Apparently the old growth trees by the concessions will be spared (hopefully!). Today they are working just north of the public toilet. They will go as far as the White House, then the funding is no more. A few more photos.

Maybe it will look good when its finished ? Or maybe it will look like a disaster zone.

This rumor started a year or so ago when the original beach beautification(?) began. The owners of the Rabbit said no this is not the plan. Yes the surveyors are out in full force, chalk marks being made for ug utilities and roadway boundaries.

So said to watch them destroy even more old-growth trees.  There is a poster now of the horrific plan.  Say goodbye to a once beautiful beach and hello to more stupid palm trees with no shade.   The writing is on the wall:  time to move.  The beach areas in both Pattaya and Jomtien are officially ruined.

Here is the mentioned poster.  I would not put much faith in an artist's rendering.

It's A crime my Thai friend knew what I was going to say and it's all so someone can get kick backs from the Construction companies. Is it going to happen all the way on the beach to Jomtien na and the gay beach. Now they have cut down the trees next to the police box I don't know where to sit in the day time. This would not happen in our home country's we would protest can't it be done here? I love those trees it's so sad

From the sign posted it looks like a street is going to be built with a new parking lot.  Wonder where all of the street venders will put their 3 wheelers?

I wish I knew what kind of old growth trees those are.  Might be worth something to somebody....
