NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: -- The mother of Novice Pleum found murdered at a southern Thai temple has hit back at online claims she is using her son's death to line her own pockets.

She has taken Pleum - or Suppachoke Eakkiettikul - to the temple of Wat Wang Sai in Nakorn Sri Thammarat for his funeral arrangements.

Mother Kanya, 40, said she had removed the body from investigators to do what any mother would want - to send her beloved child to heaven according to customs.

She said that her son had initially ordained at Wat Wang Sai and it was only natural to bring him there where the abbot and other monks loved him so much.

Sanook claimed that the body had been forcibly removed by the relatives.

Kanya said that any money raised by merit making activities would be donated to the temple and was not for her or her family.

Pleum, 17, was found buried under concrete under a Buddha statue at another temple - Wat Wang Tawantok - that is under investigation. He is thought to have been buried five months ago.

Several people have been detained. The temple owns 89 residential units and is at the center of corrupt practice allegations.
