Thailand’s pollution control division has just hired 167 people to be “Smell Assessors” on a panel tasked with telling them exactly what stinks, which smells may be dangerous, and which are just annoying.

The professional assessors will analyze various odors and report to the Pollution Control Department (PCD) on what’s causing the smells and how to control them.

Jatuporn Buruspat, the PCD director-general, said that the hiring of the new assessors to an existing panel is related the the high number of grievances made about the smells from several factories and fear about what pollution those smells might be causing or related to, reported Bangkok Post.

good start!!....the next wise move would be to have (honest) food and sanitation inspectors making random sample checks from random restaurants in major cities and shutting down the rogues....but chances are that the whole program with good intentions, could get corrupted with tea money!!!!

Thai food or any food in restaurants in Thailad is basically excellent to very good, safe and cheap...but street food may not qualify to such high standards of hygiene?

ok I know...I am a dreamer waiting for the tooth fairy!! :post-4641-1156694572:

"Thai officials" recruit 167 relatives to be Smell Assessors. Their future is assured with heaps of overtime available.

Plenty of work at those overpopulated Thai beach resorts with decrepit and unmaintained sewage treatment plants, tourist toilet facilities at national parks and other attractions, rubbish tips on resort islands and Beachfront Walking Street restaurant bogs. The list is endless and includes the pong from roadside rubbish dumps and military camp latrines (particularly the officers mess).

The big problem is where to start.

Just another "jobs for the boys and girls" loopy idea from the military.

A corruption sniffer would be handy.

I offer a training facility at my apartment. Hours from 7:30 to 10:00 AM (after my breakfast but before my shower) Apply within

What are the odds that this hiring is nothing more than nepotism?

Happened with the current NLA MP's. Happened with Prayut.

Nepotism? What an ugly word. In accordance with Thainess and high moral standards we call it: "Thai Family Tradition".

No doubt they will be kept well away from anywhere that might give off the stink of corruption.

no need for 167 ppl, the sewers and drainage on everyone's soi smells damn bad after rain. Fixed that.

no need  just point the finger at everyone, probably not far off the truth anyway

So people will smell toxic fumes from factories and determine the level of health impact. Ya Right....

Will we Farangs be deported if we smell bad?

No, not unless some lady boys complain that you didn't wash your middle leg.
