Just need some guidance please.

Currently have 10 year old PC and really do not want to put any more money in to it.

Working well until we had a lightning strike and the ethernet port is fried. Can most likely fix it for around 300 baht. Will do that and donate it to the grandson.

I only use the PC for surfing. No games or downloading or watching videos. Have other devices for these applications.

So would like some advice on which new PC to get and where to buy.

Am thinking about an all in one pc to do away with messy wires or a mini pc.

Budget is up to 20k.

Have already used the search function but looking for up to date advice.

Any helpful replies are appreciated.

Dump the old one or give it to the cleaner as is rather than inflict it on grandson. Let it go. As for new one (laptop) you need to decide on size (portable or not really?). After that quality of screen display and keyboard. Suggest purchase at Best Buy or IT City. Sounds as if even a Chromebook may be OK.

After replacing the LAN card a few times because of lightning stuff on my desk top I just bought a Wifi thingy to plug into a spare USB port...Did away with the LAN cable..

Where is your location? For surfing, even an iPad is good enough. I would suggest you to get a branded pc around 10k bath and spend the rest on a good monitor. At least Full HD or 4K if could afford it.

For another desktop PC you will hardly need to spend 20k for your requirements.

Computer shops are at about every major city/provincial capitol.

The problem with buying a new desktop PC (and laptops) in Thailand is that they don't come bundled with a licensed operating system.

Some (major chain) shops will sell it with no relevant operating system (OS) installed to stay legal.

Others will install a heap of cracked/illegal SW with some "nice" Thai language only utilities etc.

To be on the safe side you would have to buy the OS separately and install on your own.

All-in-one from 14.990 baht,   with genuine Window 19,000 baht............ Laptops from 16,xxx baht with windows 10..

From other shops maybe will come with a 'copy' of Windows, but you can phone M$ and buy the license over the phone, they will stay on the phone until your PC is running with the genuine Windows. [they are very helpful ]

as a P.S  Just another option

Thanks for all your help. The idea of giving the pc to the grandson is my girlfriends not mine.  I would prefer to buy him a tablet.

Will consider all your great suggestions and look to buy one next week.

You can buy then with factory installed windows in Thailand. HP, Dell, Acer sells them. Just look around. Just bought a Acer laptop at fortune IT mall with Windows 10 Home prem pre installed . But I had to look around.

True but Lenovo have been selling such units for many years and one I mentioned is full legal OS (as are two others that I have bought).

I bought a Dell Precision desktop from Lazada. It was deeply discounted for 25,000 baht and had a three year warranty. It came with Windows 8.1 and updated to Windows 10. I really didn't want to spend 25,000 baht but I wanted the warranty and the legal operating system. More than a year old and so far so good.

I did ask Dell how they could afford warranty service in my house for three years. I was told that they were confident that the machine would be trouble free for longer than the three year warranty and no home service would be needed. The Dell mouse failed and they sent a new one via DSL to my house with no questions asked. I did give the bad mouse to the DHL delivery man.
