Windows License.

Featured Replies

Just lately, nearly every time I boot up my PC, this message appears on the screen.

YOUR WINDOWS LICENSE WILL EXPIRE SOON.

YOU NEED TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS IN

Settings.         Go to settings.        Settings.        Close.

I know I need to go to settings, but there does not seem to be any box to click on to activate Windows.

Is it normal to get this notice? If I can't activate it, will it shut down?

Any help will be appreciated.

Usually Microsoft puts a 'watermark' message on the bottom-right of your desktop.

Caution, Virus and Malware may try to trick you with fake messages.

The activation/registration status is usually displayed in the 'SYSTEM' display (accessible via the Start Menu 'Settings' or 'Control Panel' options) Once on the System page, look for "Activation" details.

Check if Windows 10 is activated

If an earlier OS version, open CMD window and type

slmgr /xpr

slmgr.vbs /dlv   (also gives sometimes useful information)

Sounds like you have a "copy".....

If so who gave me the copy? When I bought the computer, it had windows 8.1 and I upgraded to Windows 10.

I have been scanning and searching for malmare and viruses every day and I'm told everything is fine. Transam says he thinks it's a fake.I will see what happens when I boot up tomorrow and that sign appears. Thanks

Stick that into Google and do a search, lots of results come up

Both my PC's were bought in LOS,  one XP, one W7. Both had copies, only found out after a year or so when stuff kept happening, the machines were always being taken to a shop to sort stuff. I think I recall having a similar message at some stage..Anyhoooo, got a genuine W7 installed about 3 years back which l converted to W10, nooooooo probs since the genuine one was installed.

I get mine from JBB (have I got the name right?) I got it made to my own specifications on the advice of posters on Thaivisa more than three years ago.

I was having silly little problems regularly, but since I took your advice about downloading the Super spyware (free version) and the Drivers thing which I use about every two days, my PC has been running great, so thanks again for that. I upgraded from W8.1 to W10 myself, so can it still be a copy?

Do you think I should go to the JJB shop in Nakhon Sawan and tell them to put a genuine W 10?

You can do a "genuine" test via the Net...Do that and see what happens first...

Chances are if the PC was built to a spec using different PC hardware parts and the windows version was not specifically listed in the quote and paid for then the copy of windows on that PC is probably not genuine.

This has been the case when I have had PC's built from parts and had to specifically purchase a separate windows license.

OP, have you recently done any major hardware changes, new motherboard or hard-drive etc ? If so, windows thinks its on a different computer. There is a process to reactivate.

I see what you are saying so maybe I will  look into it. Thanks.

No, although I have used an external hard drive sometimes, but that is not new, I have used one regularly without any problems.

For many, upgrading to Win10 gave them a legitimate Win10 license (digital entitlement) and the machine will authenticate for the life of that hardware configuration (digital fingerprint). Even if you were to erase everything and install Win10 from scratch.

You should be able to verify license authentication via the activation methods I posted earlier.
