Govt hopeful EEC and industrial sector will attract foreign investments

BANGKOK, 27 June 2017 (NNT) - Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong said the government is trying to boost the Thai economy by attracting foreign investors to Thailand through targeted industries and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

Apisak said several factors such as profitability and marketing expenses play an important role in determining investment growth. The government needs to provide incentives to attract investments.

The minister elaborated that more Thai entrepreneurs invested their money overseas over the past few years because of higher returns.

Despite the current situation, the Thai government has been trying to encourage investment from the private sector through the new S-curve industries, which include those related to logistics, robotics, bio-fuels and medical technology as well as the development of the EEC.

The Finance Minister expressed his belief that foreign entrepreneurs will be interested in investing in Thailand once the EEC and the new S-curve industries are fully equipped to accommodate foreign investors.

And they don't have to go "overseas" but simply to Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Not that Prayut's original investment scheme for the Chinese dual rail project was an equity split of 30% Thai government, 30% private investors and 40% Chinese government. Now it's 60% Thai government and 40% Chinese government - private investors didn't like the financial risk.

I certainly hope so too, but hope is sometimes a sad word.  Who is going to invest in industries that there are no qualified workers for!?

It's a non starter

Funny that. Thai entrepreneurs are pouring money in to Vietnam and Myanmar. For example Thai BigC has taken over Vietnam BigC and other Thai investors are investing  heavily into Vietnamese industrial real estate property. Why? Because that's where international manufacturers want to go. Anywhere other than Thailand.

But we have something new: It is S-curve industries. Thailand the hub of S-curves!  Sorry ...can't stop laughing.

Government hopeful...

New S curve industries...

:lol::lol::lol::lol:
