June 27 (Renewables Now) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will support Cambodia in the establishment of a national solar park programme and advise it on the structuring of a solar power tender.

The plan is to build 100 MW of solar power capacity in the country in two phases of around 30 MW and 70 MW. Under an advisory agreement signed Monday with Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC), ADB will be in charge of the feasibility study for the project, the development of a bankable Public-Private Partnership (PPP) structure, and the organisation of a competitive tender process to select a private sector sponsor.

ADB is also expected to provide concessional funds to EDC to cover the cost of common infrastructure at the solar power plant. This project is seen to help devise a template for solar PPPs in Cambodia and other markets in the region, the bank noted.
