''  It currently has 12 and wanted four more to complete the fleet for transportation and combat mission, the Army chief said '' ........that should sort out the problems with Uber taxis , Ladyboys and the Beach Road bag and necklace  snatchers. No doubt the Army will be want the gunship fit as part of the order !

Agreed. At least the helicopters can be used in a variety of non-military ways. Everything from sar to evacuation to emergency medical transfer.

When they can be spared from ferrying generals around.
I wonder when was the last time the Thai army deployed a company of troops by helicopter?

Not strange, the US sells much more War Gear to Saudi Arabia. Now, that's a democracy. Yes, the US MIC is huge business. Too much money and the work is spread all over the country. They like those good paying jobs. They get your vote, Besides, the South China Sea is in contention. The Philippines has an ISIS problem. You open normal trade and resource dynamics. The military aid to Thailand is your basic diplomatic engagement. Besides, there is commercial value. People talk, make other deals, Open a technology and research center. Be positive.

ok ; people ; this place is run by the military; now and it looks likes for a Long time; face up to it; as long as they do not screw with immigration (not a high point in thailand); we dont have to leave;;;;yet

Flying in groups, just the thumping sound and their maneuverability can be very intimidating to people. Flying low, they can seem to come from nowhere. Why worry, if you have decent funds, you are going nowhere. They might weed out the marginable undesirables. The older long-term types perform a social service for some families in a country with little social service support. I am curious how much one can raise in social circles, not that it matters, the Chinese do have a historical advantage, and they are making advances with aid.

Did they get them like the Chinese subs, pay for 3 get the 4th free.

A deal, I would not want to do duty in a Chinese Sub. They are still a few years away from producing a decent commercial aircraft. That other countries have had for years. I don't think even any Russian or Chinese high flyers fly on locally made private jets. I do like their Mongolian Hot Pots. Hell, the party elite send their kids to the states for school, and many don't want to go back.

How many flying hours do you have on Blackhawks? You seem to think you are an expert on the subject. Or are you just happy to bash the U.S.?

Maybe that's sarcasm but in case it isn't, S.A. is an absolute monarchy such as Thailand was prior to the Thai military revolution in 1932.

I was being sarcastic. The topic was about why the US, now, decided to sell military things and began diplomacy with Thailand. There's a new administration and things have changed in that part of the world. We have been dealing with S.A. for a long time. I really don't have much opinion about the politics. I do think, we would be better off to stop meddling in the Middle East. I was in Thailand during the Vietnam War, they kept decent control of our activities which also served their interests, and received a lot of aid, like the many airports now in use around the country.  And, they threw us out. No problem with me.

I was an avionics specialist on helicopters. For different purposes, the UH-60 Black Hawk is one of the safest helicopters in use all over the world. There are many of them and they fly many missions, many to save people for medical or emergency  evacuation in tough conditions and rough terrain. Nearly 80% of accidents have been determined to have been caused by human error. Do some research. Your Black Hawk Down was shot down.

Blackhawks from the U.S., tanks and submarines from China.  Better hurry and get all the toys, as you never know when little Lao will invade. It could be any day now.

:shock1:

Bit naïve, preparation for election day and the announcement of the result.

It really is small change. It's a proven and versatile aircraft. They already have trained crew and maintenance specialists. And right, there are economies of scale to have more aircraft. Besides, it's good politics and business to hedge relationships among the global powers.

shame they cant use that small change to fix  the crap roads, instead i use my small change and 5 days work to do it

We have the same problem in the US. Elderly people will go impoverished. Sick people will go without care. Infrastructure is in decline, and we'll spend billions on new aircraft or ships. Can't account for more billions on contractors or aid in the wars of the Middle East. It's not a perfect world. I am not advocating what Thailand does with it's military spending. However, I did note the US spent billions in Thailand during the Vietnam War, and not just on War Gear. Your airport in U-Tapao and other major cities was built by the US. This was all done in self-interest, and the US was asked to leave, and we left Thailand to their autonomy. Russia and China now have more influence. Go figure, why you need submarines or why your funding China for railroads. Better things to ponder than a few US. helicopters. Our presence is very small. Bet others or you wouldn't mind, a US corporate and administrative funded STEM center in Thailand.

The helicopters from the USA are very complex machines, and are not perfect, Canada has some old

stock that belong in museums, and would like some black hawks. Our new models are small and

not the most useful machines for the military. Aussy land , sorry to hear of your losses, I guess the crashes

were all mechanical failures, of some sort?

Geezer
