"Waterfront" condo purchasers in Pattaya could see some developments later this month

Does anyone know how long the building can remain in its unfinished state before seriously expensive remedial work would be required to complete it? And if it does become necessary, do all the current buyers have to pay for those works?

Reading Cruncher's copied letter above I just cannot understand why the developer didn't strictly comply with its then-planning permits. Why overbuild etc?

A COMMON SIGHT AT THE CRISIS OF 1997 in bangers ..rotten to the core and then years later work carried on as normal

A major blot on the landscape, this project should never have been allowed to start.

wonder how many people are now throwing money away on lawyers trying to get their money back. i walked away from my 30% deposit on another condo project. better to cut your losses and move on.

Brown envelopes could never get around the requirement to demolish 5000 m² of floor space as well as the encroachment on public land

Just to clarify, according to a diagram I saw, the encroachment on public land is the back corner of the small, low-rise sales office--which could easily be torn down.

The high rise building + the rest of the concrete jungle + alcohol+drugs+thugs+ prostitution+ trash on beaches+ traffic  do have an effect on the value of any city, true!..now, any suggestions? you can't just rewind the tape and travel back in 1965.

I bet you, the 2024 photo of the lookout will probably have a few more buildings either side of the Waterfront and many more behind the hill and the bay will be dotted with more vessels . wasn't that the case with Central Pats or Naklua? it's easy to just say "no" but answer will be "yes" if you give it just a little bit of thought.

the comparison of 1965 and 2012 photo is the perfect evidence.

A dirt poor village is now one of the best cities in Asia...Pattaya has no drug scene..unfortunately,  no arts an s no museums ..Never the less it's the last interesting city in Thailand.

No arts ???  What about by example the Sanctuary of Truth or Art in Paradise ?

No museum ?? What about those on Van Gogh, Glass bottles, Teddy bears, Viharnra Sien, waxwork, gems, ice of Siam, etc.?

How did normally rational and  quite wealthy people get sucked into this ?

Did the developers have any track record in Thailand ?

Maybe something lost in the translation, maybe they meant later this decade...

You omitted Mini Siam ( if it still exists ). When I visited the bottle museum many years ago, they said I was the first farang ever to go there!

Some think their local watering hole is all of Pattaya......

What’s happening with The Orion condo?

I saw they were affiliated with Emerald group who has stolen a billion baht in Phuket.

  • 1 month later...

what's the latest on waterfront?

heard some rumors that the project got sold after the former developer went bankrupt

I recall that they did the pilings for the Orion, and then stopped.  I may stop and check by in a couple days as I am passing thru Patts, and stay in Pratumnak.

Which former developer? The original one or the second one that took over from the first one after it collapsed?

As far as I know both developers have now failed and many of the people involved with them are no longer around.

This development has been a litany of failure since the word go and it is really quite appropriate to resurrect the topic on April Fool's Day as it is probably Pattaya's biggest joke ever.

the last one.

joke or not, the decomposing structure is a reality and no one dares to touch it for some veeeery "unknown" reason!

I was just curious on the latest on it, that's all

You really have a keen interest in this one....

It is a potential gold mine location.

Implode the thing, build a casino there, then pay off those that lost.

and I assume your interest, if any, isn't "keen"  but your reply to my post was pretty fast for someone who doesn't have any interest.

now back to your remark, my answer is: why not. i live in this city and it's in my face. I have a keen interest to see it to be completed or demolished. one or the other, but not at this decomposing state for the next 10 years

Why we never hear from an actual investor what has happened besides being scammed out of deposits etc.

Agree.  And, I think it interests most Pattaya residents who care about their city.  Totally ridiculous it has sat there unfinished since August 2014 on the most prominent spot in Pattaya and nobody in power so far has had the cojones to either order it finished or torn down.

it's a cash cow and even in a vegetative state or "playing dead", it's generating income to some. Reviving or bringing back from the edge of death might even generate more.

Stay tuned...

I thought you lived in Colombia....perhaps that is under one of your other usernames....

I remember you as stating that you weren't going to post again on the subject. But here you are again, bumping the thread even though you have absolutely nothing to add.

If you live in the city and have a keen interest, why no go to City Hall and ask?

The amount of money that one law firm was quoting just to submit documents for each co-owner for the financial "realignment" that was proposed a couple years ago was certainly a lot more than chicken feed. I wonder whatever happened with that?

maybe that's what they have in mind since no one dares to knock it down.

A casino is an excellent idea. "I bet"  gambling will also revive the dying sex tourism in this sin city

Its traffic-wise not a good location for a huge casino. Jomtien is much more suitable for Casinos.

Just demolished the Waterfront so automatically that plot becomes part of the green leisure park.

Cancel the ridiculous and failed mafia boat marina project and move it elsewhere and just fill the seafront by importing sand and rocks and create an area for casinos, restaurants and park-like landscaping will add more green.. Just like they did in Manila, The City of Dreams, the luxury resort and casino complex.

But this may be too far fetched for natives who love to oppose to almost anything.
