Hiking with dog one hour car drive away from Silom?

Featured Replies

Looking to hike with my GF and my dog at the weekends, one hour drive away from Silom BKK. Not looking for dog park, just a rural area that we can hike with the dog with no leash.

Please help, I have a  5 month Doberman exploded with energy.

Edit: Also a recommendation for a dog friendly beach will be highly appreciated.

I don't know anywhere you can walk a dog comfortably in Thailand without being harassed by soi dogs. Perhaps a national park where you can't take dogs anyway, and certainly not any beach I've been to that didn't have it's army of soi dogs all ready to defend their territory. One of the things I miss here, being able to take my dog for a long walk, other than doing 20 laps of my gated village.

The problem is that all the rural areas surrounding Bangkok are occupied by rural people with their own rural dogs who can be pretty aggressive towards strangers.

You could try google earth and using satellite images try to find some large wasteground. There are large parks in the far suburbs but off the leash would not be possible.

In any event , a one hour drive from Silom won't get you far in Bangkoks traffic.

One hour from Silom might only leave you somewhere on Sathorn... I do sympathize, big dogs need to run... I would probably head out in the direction of Kanchanaburi... good luck.

Sathorn might be over-egging the pudding somewhat, but point taken. Best I can think of is the so-called 'lung' of Bangkok, known as Bang Krachao ( บางกระเจ้า) in Thai. You can drive there via Rama III, but best might be to leave the car at Klong Toei and take the ferry across. It won't be ideal, but traffic is generally lighter than the city proper, and there are purpose-built walkways where your dog can enjoy the scents. As anywhere in Thailand, beware the local dogs though, they are extremely territorial.

More than an hour but might be worth a try is Ban Amphur beach. I've taken dogs there often and while it is not stray free they basically just stare and bark at you and yours. I've never had one attack yet. You will have to make sure your dog does not attack them though as I'm sure you'll get plenty of 'owners' show up with their hands out in the event of a dog fight.

Nakhon Nayok is the answer

there really isn't any hiking trails 1 hour from bangkok, its mostly rural private farm land. The walking/biking/hiking trails around bangkok tend to have street dogs around, which is not the best option. The nearest I can think of is kanchanaburi which is 2.5 hours away or national park in Hua Hin.
