G'day guys, I'll be in thailand late august -early november, instead of visa extension, I was thinking of flying from cnx to dong hoi, (new route opening in august) with jetstar pacific, probably early october, my question is can I get vietnam visa in cnx? or can get on arrival in vietnam ? or do I have to travel to bkk to apply vietnam embassy.?

You can get an e-visa at https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt but currently Dong Hoi is not listed as an arrival point, presumably as they currently don't have any international flights.  Maybe that will have changed once this route starts up, otherwise a trip to Bangkok seems likely.

Yes on re-think, i might just extend my stay in bkk on arrival, & go to the vietnam embassy, apply there, thanks anyway.

You can get a Vietnam visa in Chiang Mai through a travel agent across from Thapae Gate if you wish. 2,700baht I believe.

That is just another commercial website doing pre authorisation letters. "gou.vn" 555. Will be no use until the airport becomes international in any case.
