Laptop bought in Thailand usable in Europe

Featured Replies

Do anyone know if a relatively new laptop bought in Thailand is usable in Europe?

Thanks

Yes.

I cant remember the last time I saw a laptop power supply that wasnt suitable for global use: they are designed specifically for this. In particular, the nominal voltage and frequency in Thailand is similar to that in Europe.

Check the power input specification on the laptop power supply. It will surely say something like 100-250V and 50-60Hz, and that means that it will work anywhere that has mains power. If the worst comes to the worst and it doesnt say that then you could just buy a new power supply adaptor suitable for use in somewhere like the USA where the voltage/frequency may be different, but for Europe you surely wont need to.

All you might need is an adapter for the AC plug or a replacement cable.

Whether or what adapter is needed depends on country.

This is the usual type of cable used in Thailand for the AC adapter:

Even in the US the universal AC adapters should work (110 V, 60 Hz).

Absolutely. I think that any problems generally arise in the other direction: people buying devices in the US that are not designed to work on 230v/50Hz supplies. All vanishingly rare these days though.

Still, it can never do any harm to check the writing on the power supply before using it.

No question.

Would have been especially useful for those members who have blown up their newly imported US devices. A couple of cases described in the forum :whistling:

Thanks for the replies, I have got me an adapter for the AC plug today:smile:

Bought an ASUS laptop in Thailand. Works fine in HK and UK. Just carry adaptors.
