Large pharmacy BKK ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a pharmacy that carries a drug which seems not to be in stock (2/3 pharmacies) or not available at all (1/3 pharmacies that I visited yesterday).

I've been trying to buy Tryptanol (international brand name for amitriptyline). I was able to buy it once in Hua Hin, and once in Bangkok. It's basically a sleeping pill (or some use of as anti-depressant). It seems that Thailand does not sell sleeping pills, so I wasn't sure how I get my hands on it before, but I did just by asking "sleeping pill" in a pharmacy.

If anyone knows of a pharmacy that carries not very common drugs let me know! One pharmacist strongly recommended Victory Monument, but when I asked for name or address I only got "there are many". I wouldn't even sure where to go.

Cheers,

Matt

Across the street/soi from Siriraj Hospital (sirirat) there are several fairly biggish farmacies.

Some VERY big. And these farmacies are generally quite cheap.

They are in the soi on the southern side of the hospital, the soi leading to the jetty on the river.

There is a large pharmacy between Sukhumvit Sois 2 and 4 - right next door to Bully's Pub. I have no idea if they will have what you need but they certainly have extensive stocks.

Owner and Staff speak good English too.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I do admit that I prefer something along side Sukhumvit if possible.

Patrick, will check out that pharmacy today since it's just right next to BTS. Will see!

The pharmacy Patrick suggested is quite OK, have been there many times, (mostly for buying beer though).

But its a good pharmacy.

If you don't find what you want. I would suggest the ones across the river that I mentioned above.

Some of the pharmacies in that soi have HUGE stocks, and they are cheap.

Mind you, it is not without reason that they are situated across the soi from one of the largest hospitals in Bangkok,

they supply medicine for all sorts of ailments.

(an example of price,

smth I buy regularly I pay about 420/430/440 for along Sukhumvit, aross the river by Siriraj I pay 260)

Thanks, might check it out after one Patrick has mentioned.

Do you know the address? Or perhaps could provide more details so I can find it easily? Thx!

its on sukhumvit near the 15 intersection. cant miss it once you are in the vicinity. i think between 15 and 17, before robinsons, but memory is hazy, might be between 15 and 13. but it is very close to 15 corner. its worth the effort though, 215 baht for a ventolin inhaler when most sell for over 300 as an example

Ah, that's great! I have asthma and use that sporadically too. I've always been bringing it back from my country and needed a prescription. Will check it out
