As the world’s favorite sex-change surgery destination, Thailand definitely takes the cake in its recognition of the complexity of human sexuality.
 
There are, in fact, 18 gender identities that are recognized in the local lexicon, according to RocketNews24.com
 
The 18 Genders are not just men and women!
 
(Straight) Male
A man who likes women.
 
(Straight) Female
A woman who likes men.
 
Tom
A woman who dresses like a man and likes women or Dees.
 
Dee
A woman who likes manly women or Toms.
 
Tom Gay
A woman who likes women, Toms, and Dees.
 
Tom Gay King
A manly Tom who likes Toms.
 
Bi(sexual)
A woman who likes bisexuals, Toms, lesbians, and men.
 
Boat
A man who likes women, Gay Kings, and Gay Queens (does not include Ladyboys).
 
Gay Queen
A womanly man who likes men.
 
Gay King
A manly man who likes men.
 
Tom Gay Two-Way
A Tom who can be both a Tom Gay King or Tom Gay Queen.
 
Tom Gay Queen
A womanly Tom who likes Toms.
 
Lesbian
A woman who likes women.
 
Kathoey/Ladyboy
A man who wants to be a woman.
 
Adam
A man who likes Toms.
 
Angee
A Kathoey who likes Toms.
 
Cherry
A woman who likes gay men and Kathoey.
 
Samyaan
A woman who likes Toms, lesbians, and women, and can also be any of them.”
 
While shocking as this list may seem to some, it is important to note that since these are “gender identities” which are different from “biological sex.” There could be a myriad of other genders that people might identify with. This whole spectrum of other genders in Thailand is not too different from the West’s classification of the sexes as well. New York, for example, recognizes 31.

the english language is going to run out of pronouns, which is probably good in keeping confusion at bay. the use of "they" (the pronoun that non-binary people want to be used on them) is already causing short circuits in my brain.

Truly, Facebook is lost. They don't even list Male or Female.  I've no ideal what Cis or those 'other' pre-post words or acronyms mean.

 

Thailand is truly diverse and lucky for you, most of you don't know what's said in private in Thai.

Would love to see attempts at translating these into Thai. LOL

 

There are only two sexes/genders: male and female, and perhaps three sexual orientations: hetero, homo and bi. Hetero and cisgendered is by far the norm for obvious reasons (our species would otherwise go extinct). Anything else is a tiny percentage of aberrations or deviations from the norm e.g. intersex. These outliers shouldn't be maligned, shamed or persecuted, but shouldn't be worshipped and celebrated as superior, enlightened or "special", either, just worth investigating and understanding without judgment (that's what modern science is or should be about).

 

However, most of these new fake "genders" amount to being trendy social theories and post-modern fads for insecure, immature, narcissistic attention wh-, er, seekers who lack meaning or purpose in their lives. They definitely have "issues" if all they can do is elevate their "gender identity" to be the only important aspect of their existence or character. (See also "intersectionality" and other SJW dogma.)

 

Generally, this myopic obsession with gender and sex is not a healthy trend for our Western societies or Western civilization. Noted social critic and sensible feminist Camille Paglia has observed most advanced civilizations in ages past went through a very sexually liberal "anything goes" phase just before they collapsed and theorized these more licentious and decadent periods signify the "late phase" of a civilization experiencing some sort of existential crisis. As I see mostly educated, liberal, secular, feminist, gay-friendly and often childless Europeans absolutely terrified of being called "racist" or "Nazi" allowing millions of frequently uneducated, illiberal, devoutly religious, misogynistic, homophobic and very fertile Arab, Muslim and African "refugees" to flood into their nations already experiencing anemic economic growth, overburdened welfare states and massive public debts, I'm starting to wonder if this is how it all ends.

hmmm....maybe thaivisa needs to offer more options...or appear regressive to more enlightened members
