I was ordering some DVDs on Amazon.com to ship here in Thailand. Amazon gave me a message that the DVDs were formatted for Region 1 and might not work here. What's the deal with this?

Simple, buy a multi-region DVD Player or an x-box. I'm sure there will be places you can have you DVD chipped if it doesn't already accept multi-region.

I hope this facility will be available for the new generation of DVD players when they come out.

I consider it an outrage that the movie manufacturers tell me where I can play a disk that I have paid them good money for.

As a general rule I've found that the cheaper DVD's are easy to switch to multi region but the major brand names such as Sony, Philips, Panasonic etc. are either very difficult or not switchable/hackable. So if your just looking for something to play DVD's from anywhere in the world just get a cheap unbranded model that you can switch to multi region.

My Pioneer DVR machine came region free as standard, but that was bought in Singapore...........

Google DVD region software and you should find a few free software solutions that will take of your problem. You can switch regions as many times as you wish.

My Pioneer was also region free, and bought in Thailand. If you get your player here in Thailand, ask the staff if they can make the player region free for you, they usually know how to do it.

Go to google, put your model of your dvd player and type region free code.

You should get some info on what to press on your remote control to unlock it.

Simple.
