PATTAYA: -- A Canadian woman was arrested in Pattaya late Monday night for allegedly stealing nail polish and other products from a supermarket there.

Mina Sawed, 28, was captured by staff of the Best Supermarket and handed over to police at about 11pm.

The staff members told police Sawed allegedly stole five bottles of nail polish, a nail cutter, glue for attaching imitation nails and mascara.

They said she allegedly hid the items in her handbag.

They said foreign tourists often stole from shop so they had to closely monitor them.

They said Sawed had looked suspicious and when she came to the cashier they asked to check her handbag.

best way to steal was for her to purse her lips, smearing them with colours - saying she thought it was a Tester...

... then go to the nails display, and...

At least it was 'she' who approached the counter, and not caught at the door

Ah well, put her in the comfortable detention center, awaiting deportation. Of course she will have to pay for her own ticket of course!

Not quite. She has eight counts of theft "under the cover of darkness", (even though it happened in a store with lights on, as the sun had gone down) with a 2 year jail tag on each count.  Nong Plalai prison is an absolute shithole, so she wont find the stay there comfortable, and Immigration Detention Center in Suan Plu, where she will go prior to deportation is worse. You are correct in that she will have to pay for her own ticket at the end of it though. Poor decision on her part you would have to say.

A prejudicial remark and so the  Thai shoppers never steal......right?!

They have a point foreigners are not immune from thieving here .. Off Thai's or other foreigners  .. and Thai's themselves are not averse to tea-leafing off other Thai's or farang .. And thiefery here takes all form's as we know .. All part of the mosaic that is Pattaya .. :saai:

Of course not. Thais are the most honest and law abiding nation on earth.

Spend all that money coming here and then stealing something small and low value  ? stupid !

Study found out that upper middle, and upper class are shoplifters. Because they materials, and don't like to pay.

Middle and lower and middle class don't steal anything, because they are happy with what they have, and buy only those are affordable.

Many high class hotels, set the room rents along with amount of goods they lose from guest, that's why they are expensive.

This shows a suspiciously intimate familiarity with these temples of incarceration....

A prejudicial remark

Prejudiced remarks (not be confused with prejudicial remarks) are such a rarity here at the hub of Thai bashing.

I doubt the usual Thai bashing here would be considered prejudicial since the comments  usually amount to "preaching to the choir," but certainly there's no end of prejudiced remarks regarding Thais

In any event, saying that some group of people bear watching based on past experience doesn't imply that no other group could be guilty of similar behavior. If anything it makes it sounds like Best Supermarket attracts a dubious clientele. And "foreign tourists" can easily include Russians, Chinese, Africans and Indians, always favorite targets for character assassination here at Thai Visa.

Seems like you are the prejudicial one.   Why couldn't they monitor and determine who was stealing?
