Phuket rescue workers appeal to Chinese gods for a ‘safer’ Patong Hill

PHUKET: -- Scores of rescue workers from the Phuket chapter of the Kusoldharm Foundation held a mass procession over Patong Hill and through the streets of Patong yesterday (Aug 21) in the hopes that an appeal to the Chinese gods will help make the hill safer.

 

The procession started at the “Khwan Yang Intersection” on Phra Baramee Rd, about halfway over the hill, then descended the steep slope into Patong that has caused dozens of deadly accidents, mostly tour buses and other heavy vehicles suffering from brake failure.

 

The procession invited He Yeyun, the Chinese god of knowledge, astrology and conqueror, to help bring peace to the notorious hill.

The culprit is not the hill but the drivers.

 

They should ask their gods to make the drivers more responsible and more skillful and the car owners more responsible for their cars.

Instead of making offering to non existent gods, how about you bring in some professional drivers from other countries (there is no such thing in Thailand), and teach these idiots how to drive on a damn hill!

These gods will still be there when you are long gone. Only because you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

And this type of performance is a major contributing factor towards Thailands horrible road accident figures.

 

A conversation with the missus when we got a new car went something like this:

 

"Why are we having the car blessed by the monks?"

"For good luck"
"And why do we have to have the roof of the car stamped and gold flake on the steering wheel?"

"Good luck as well."

"Do all Thai cars have this done?"
"Yes"

"So if all cars are so lucky, why does Thailand have one of the worst road accident rates in the world?"

Bearing in mind a lot of the drivers using this hill are Muslim I do not hold out much court for this appeal to the Chinese gods!

There's nothing wrong with the hill.  A hill is a hill is a hill.  Teach the numbskull drivers how to descend a hill in the correct gear to keep the bus speed under control.
