Even judges in ex-PM’s case do not know final verdict

A SUPREME COURT ruling in the rice-pledging case against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has not been made official because the |nine judges have not yet announced their individual decisions to each other, a well-informed source from the court said yesterday.

The nine judges of the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders on the panel trying Yingluck’s case were scheduled to read their individual decisions on Friday. A discussion between the judges was then expected to lead to a majority opinion but after Yingluck jumped bail and did not appear in court, the decisions of the nine judges remained sealed in envelopes.

The judges are not allowed to discuss their decision with each other until the day of the ruling. The final ruling will be based on a majority decision of the nine judges, said the source. Because Yingluck did not attend the court ruling on Friday, the court was required by law to issue a warrant for her arrest and have her brought to court within a |month.

The law authorises the judges to announce their individual |decisions at the subsequent |official ruling on September 27, |a month after the originally |scheduled reading. The presence of the defendant would not be necessary on that date, the source added.

Meanwhile, police were yesterday still gathering evidence required to obtain a search warrant for Yingluck’s Bangkok house, a senior official said.

House being monitored

Metropolitan Police Area 4 chief Maj-General Nanthachat Supamongkol, who oversees Lat Phrao Police Station, which has jurisdiction covering Yingluck’s house, said the search warrant was a sensitive issue so he needed to wait for his supervisor’s command.

Nanthachat said he had ordered police forces to be |dispatched to monitor her |house and keep law and order there.

So far, there was nothing happening at the property, he said. Police had talked to Yingluck’s maids and housekeepers but they denied knowing anything. “We are sure we have not overlooked anything. We have emphasised to officers the need to strictly monitor the place and will do it for a while until the situation returns to normal,” he said.

Yingluck’s house in Bangkok’s Bueng Kum District has been very quiet since she fled the country days before facing the verdict. Some media are still staking out the front of her house in case anything significant happens.

This kind of nonsense is why people have little faith in the justice system.

Does ANYONE believe this?

Anyone?

Well Yingluck obviously knew what the verdict would be. Not rocket science just "Brown Paper" bags and a well placed mole. Do they really think the general Thai population and we Farang are that stupid?

I've read nonsense before, but this is way beyond nonsense, it is very offensive lying.

What is clear is that the 9 judges made a decision, each knew exactly how others would rule, and that the judges or an authorized underling reached out to Thaksin and "sold" their decision to allow Thaksin to decide his sister's next move.

It was difficult to see how the junta could lose more credibility, but the last weeks events have shown we must never underestimate their ability to appall.

hard to tell if this system created for the last 80 years resembles a pyramid sales scam or more akin to an organised crime network.

clearly those at the top of the chain can tell national court judges what to do and play media circus games with ex-pm's

what a horrible corrupt, controlling system it really is

you can see why the masses have been trying to kick it out over the last 80 years and bring in a fairer system like democracy

Maybe it's even worse and they don't think at all about others' opinion because they don't have to. For them there is an elite, military and police,- no population in sight.

That is an outright lie. thaksin did no such thing. no one sold him information.

Of course the justices know. It is procedural to not officially "know".
They cannot announce until they have their confabulation and officially come to a consensus.
It seems a bit odd to folks who are more accustomed to Western jurisprudence, but it is just the way things are done here regardless of any other factors.

...or the judges were "told" what their decision was to be.....by somebody further up the food chain

So they will continue to "monitor the house" i.e. the maids, until "the situation returns to normal".

Sorry, I don't understand what "the situation returns to normal" means. ?

They do  think the thai public are that stupid and they dont give a rats  what farang think.

For sure she knew the verdict or she would not have run.

Its a witch hunt and while most thai can be fooled the farang are not.

It will be 8 to 1 in the guilty  verdict cause in thai they always want to seem like someone is on the opposit side while the majority condemn. Cause if 1 judge thinks she is innocent then she saves some face and it looks more real.

Even though its been decided 3 years ago by a special someone.

Always surprised by the white knights here. Even academics in US said her trial is not legal or should not be considering what happened during her time in the office. Was there corruption? Yes for sure, and which gov is not corrupt here or anywhere else? At least farmers got double for their rice after being milked for decades.

This is nothing else but to remove any kind of opposition. Good or bad one doesnt matter. Those who praise her being jailed whats is alternative? Better with dictatorship I guess.

As an example comparing Thailand with Australia's High Court, the usual practice is for Justices to prepare written reasons for their decisions which are handed down by the Court at a later sitting. It's extraordinary that this all happens in Thailand in one day:crazy:
