Hi,

I'm new to the forum and relatively new to having a Thai G/F (6 months). We have seen each other every month since meeting, either in Thailand or Singapore (where I have been working). We now want her to visit the UK for 2 or 3 weeks, and I have mailed all of the necessary paperwork to her for the Visa application.

She is in full-time employment with a decent income (30k/month), but has asked me to boost her bank account to the tune of 70k to satisfy the application. I have no reason not to trust her, but is this a reasonable amount (i.e. how much do the immigration people expect to see in the Thai bank a/c ?).

Any help / advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

If you are a UK citizen, have somewhere to stay in UK, an income and a better bank balance than her you can sponsor her visit and in that case her own bank account together with proof of her salary and job should be sufficient. Remember the only thing they are really looking for is to have enough funds for the trip and reason to return to Thailand.

Apologies, another question.....

The G/F was previously married to a Thai, but is now divorced. Does she need to evidence the divorce when applying for a UK Visitors Visa to visit me (i.e. her boyfriend) ? If so, is the original divorce certificate required or just a copy ?

Thanks again.

Someone's marital status is largely irrelevant in relation to a normal visit visa application, so I wouldn't submit the divorce papers. If, however, you were applying for a marriage visit visa, then they would be germaine.

Scouse.

There is no exact cash requirement...

They want to see a reason to return to Thailand...

Dear Friend,

Since you are working in Singapore ( and presumably living there) I suggest you apply there.

The Embassy in Bangkok is notoriously difficult when it comes to visas. The government visa statistics prove this...hardly anyone turned down there. So you might find it a breeze applying at the High Commission there . Try it when your g/f next in Sing.

Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Unfortunately I'm not due back to Singapore until mid-Feb, so having to apply for the VV from Thailand. She is using one of the outsourced regional Visa application centres and they already asked her for more info (original paperwork for her business and not photocopies, photos of us together etc). Sounds like they are being quite helpful with their advice.

Does anyone else have any experience of using these people and, if so, what's your opinion ?

Thanks again.

Despite the advice above, The Visa is for your girlfriend and your girlfriend works and is resident in Thailand so she will have to apply for the Visa in her country of residence. Seems like you are doing things right. Good luck.
