Love Me, Love My Dog (thai Saying)

Featured Replies

I need help, and I'm wondering if anyone else has done this before. Im trying to export my dog from Thailand back to the UK. There are no specific requirements from the quarantine centre in the UK stating that my dog should have any particular vaccinations or certificates as it will spend 6 months in quarantine. But what sort of problems am I likely to experience at the airport in Bangkok. I just know that the ill-informed staff at Suvarnabhuni airport will cause problems. Knowing full well how Thailand and its people do things, and that nothing is ever straight forward, will we need to provide any information or paperwork at the airport in Bangkok. The last thing we want is to arrive back in the UK with our dog still in Thailand. Thanks

Not me but an interesting question...

.....errrr, are you sure about this? My five minute study suggests that a few certificates would be required even by the airline before your pet is allowed even near the plane in BKK. This link from the BA Web site suggests you need a few.

>But what sort of problems am I likely to experience at the airport in Bangkok.

Loads - getting the name of the bod working for your airline that loads animals and is on duty the day you are travelling would be wise, likewise talking to the Thai airport animal handler before you get there would mean you are meeting the guy a second time with your dog rather then breaking the ice while trying to catch a flight and deal with an excited or doped doggie as well.

They will be ill informed if you do not talk to them before getting there, you are clearly an animal lover, probably having spent time and money with a Thai vet in the past? Consider getting the info from your airline then going to your Thai vet with the telephone number of BKK's animal handler, might be able to contact them via this web site.

Another reason to have loads of forms to show them, if it's in Thai they will like that, if possible get your vet to use a rubber/ink stamp on it - looks good.

Depending on the airline - it might end up in ELS ?

This site has general advice. Your local UK quarantine office would probably be able to offer more focused advice.

See the bottom of this web site it mentions the Thai requirements to allow a pet out of the country. Their contact information is here.

Thanks Cuban for that info. I had already checked out most of the links that you had kindly posted, bar one, and had already been in touch with DEFRA, PETS, Heathrow Airport, Thai Airways etc. However the one link that was of use has been very useful in providing the information I require. Thanks once again.
