Hi All,

The father in law who's non-Thai (Laos) requires a Liver operation to remove a tumour from his Liver, apparently X-Rays show it at about 7% of the Liver size.

Any one got any recommendations for hospitals to go to...?

I'll start googling,

looks like I'll be paying so we won't be heading to Bumrumgrad ....so if you have a rough idea on prices would be handy !

Many thanks

Regards

SB

You are looking at big money (and possibly still a bad prognosis if it is a malignant tumor)

Government hospital:

Chulalongkhorn or Siriraj in Bangkok

Srinigarind (KKU) Hosp in Khon Kaen

CMU Hospital in Chiang Mai

Has he had a liver biopsy yet?

Best guess, the surgery and associated tests, scans etc will run you in a govt hospital maybe 100-150K.

Possible he will need chemo after that. More $, how much depending on the drugs.

Given the follow up likely needed suggest you choose from the list above the hosp closest to where he (or you, if he's living still in Laos)  lives. Chemo would usually be done as an outpatient.

Many thanks Sheryl,

no biopsy as yet, X-Rayed in Mukdahan today so planning on heading to Bangkok in the next day or two.

An idea of Chemo costs also ?

Chemo costs can be anywhere from very low (at a govt hosp) to very high --- it depends on the drug needed and that in turn depends on type of tumor.

Since he has not even had a biopsy yet, should take it step by step. Possibly the mass is benign in which caseno need for chemo and possibly not even for surgery.

BTW liver mass cannot be seen on Xray, only on CT, ultrasound or MRI. So he must have had one of those done.

Would help to know where this was diagnosed, based on what sort of scan, with what tentative diagnosis.

Many Thanks Sheryl,

I'll try and get the info re how exactly the mass was detected.

Will get send pics on Sunday night.

The hospital was in Mukdahan, there's 2 by the look of Google, I'll find the answer to this ASAP.

Once again many thanks and

Best Regards SB, and the in-laws !

If he is living in Mukdahan, Khon Kaen Univ Hospital may be the most convenient option for him.

In addition, as liver cancer is especially prevalent in the northeast, this hospital has a lot of experience with it.  Try to see Prof. Narong Khuntikeo there, if he goes in through the after hours clinic can request this (will cost a little more ax a result but that is only for the consultation,m the surgery if indicated would be at usual rate).

The hospital in Mukdahan will have done at a minimum basic blood work including a hepatitis panel, important that he brings all results with him to avoid unnecessary repeat tests.

Hi,

I am 76 living in Chiang Mai. I am a last stage liver cancer patient.

Recently I had a scary life and death experience.

If the OP is interested please message me and I can provide useful information about my experience by telephone conversation as English is not my native .

Please read up black sesame seed extract. This is a research done by a team of researcher at Chiang Mai University.

Thank you.

Hi Sheryl

Actually live a few hours from Suvanakhet in Laos. Khon Kaen might be closer but I think BKK is more suitable as lots of family live/work there.

Noted re Blood Work. I'll pass on thanks

Best Regards
