  1. Well if I hadn't decided to look in General (which I only did as looking for a specific topic) I probably would not have known anything about it. It will be interesting to see if my partner is even aware of it..........
  2. It's all part of the "CRS" process now.......where it is all laid out what the individual FI should try and get but it doesn't mandate you have to have one - yet.........
  3. Any of these places open at 7am to serve an English breakfast? Also need to be able to park a car within 10 minutes walk or so.
  4. Been a number of threads over the years. Obviously if they don't know that you live in Thailand (or another foreign country) then they aren't going to ask.........
  5. I don't know the answer to your question especially as most discussions on AN have been about Thai tax residents gifting their significant others......and there have been many such instances including this one - however this - is way out of date. Gift tax law was amended in 2015/16. If you go here - https://www.rd.go.th/english/37749.html Under section 42 - So you could argue that if you were ever asked............
  6. As long as you are not deliberately avoiding paying taxes that are due I believe the official fine is a whole 2000baht......it has been referenced on here in the past. To-date no-one has reported hearing anyone being fined - Thai or foreigner. Considering how many people have already said their tax office refused to give them a no. it seems like a pure scare tactic to try and drum up business. If you actually owe a reasonable amount then of course you should be filing......... So up to you what you should do.........
  7. Yes my understanding it is only for newly issued policies hence my "ultimatum" mentioned in the OP.
  8. He was lucky they didn't just charge him 5k baht like some other's have mentioned......
  9. I second that - and I only used them for the first time last year after prevaricating for a long time and sending hard copies in the post........
  10. Agreed. I bought a Redmi Note 8 nearly 5 years ago and after 3 months put a custom ROM on it with Android 10 as I was so hacked off with the telemetry. Persevered with various banking hacks (for a Thai bank) for a few years before conceding and buying a separate phone to use pretty much exclusively for that. I could upgrade it but why......... The "old" phone is still my daily driver. No Google or Meta and AF Wall+ stops most outgoing telemetry from the phone. Punching in the dark - probably, but makes me feel better......
  11. Article here - https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/general/2975571/unpacking-the-new-co-pay-rule This may explain why I was suddenly told that a Thai Life Health policy I had been considering to take on to replace April Int policy would have a 30% co pay element unless I made up my mind literally within 2 days (it was a couple of weeks ago). Reading the details below the quote it is not 100% clear to me. Interesting if any other members have had this mentioned to them as have seen nothing else mentioned elsewhere. Edit - it may only be applicable to Life companies offering Health as an add on?
  12. This doesn't seem to make much sense. If it isn't in the DTA my understanding is it could be taxed by whoever but the respondee seems to be suggesting that they cannot - or am I misinterpreting what they said?
  13. It doesn't work like that. The banks send to the Central Bank/RD who then may forward to another country's central bank/RD. There is no individual bank to bank exchange of information above what they have to send under CRS. Have a look at this and see if it helps - file:///C:/Users/gpt1/Documents/Finance/Tax/Thailand/Thailand_CRS_Guidance_280823.pdf
  14. And the day after that is April Fools........so f***ing what........ I am not sure if the laughing emoji is to show you are not serious but did you consider some people who have been desperately trying to file (whether needed or not) and who have been turned away may not find your comment that hilarious
  15. The more I read this sort of BS the more I think some "enterprising " Jomtien based RD official has decided it is a good way to get money for basically nothing. Why have they done that - I can only presume they saw the numbers of foreigners turning up to request TIN's even though they had no tax to pay and decided to make use of it. Purely my supposition however I very much doubt that everybody's tax bill is going to be exactly 5k baht...... Thanks by the way for confirming it is Pattaya. I have presumed you mean the Jomtien office other side of 2nd rd near Immigration but please correct me if wrong.
  16. Unfortunately this has already happened to a certain extent - re money think China and more surprisingly Canada. The average person seems quite happy to give up their privacy and information for convenience although I question how many are really aware of the extent. The more digital and AI progresses, potentially realty suffers - anybody else see Rabbit Hole with Kiether Sutherland? Interestingly I read the other week that the people are gaming self service check outs in the UK - something to do with weight from memory. When I was last there I used them a couple of times and hated them
  17. Based on the "supposed" 4 posters who managed to pay 5k when supposedly nothing was required, anybody, with genuinely non assessable income (eg. as in DTA or savings pre 2024 precludes it), would be literally bonkers to go and try and file.......my opinion only of course......
  18. Agreed. However do you have any idea what their bacon is in reality - as certainly shape wise it is not like any bacon I have eaten elsewhere?
  19. It seems like left hand/right hand....... or are the Sentencing Council just thumbing their noses at politicians and the citizens in general...........
  20. Wrong event. He made big money on a Black Friday event in the 90s.......that was where he really came to prominence. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/brexit-latest-george-soros-wins-big-prediction-black-friday-a7102481.html Yes he made money out of Brexit but with specific bets and investing in gold apparently...... in above article and here - https://www.forbes.com/sites/antoinegara/2016/06/28/how-billionaire-george-soros-profited-from-brexits-black-friday/
  21. Could you not have asked them what the "shortcut" entailed - or are we talking something under the table?
  22. If he declared remittances to the TRD then they will have calculated tax. There have been some mixed reports as some Revenue offices don't seem to understand the impact of various DTAs and other offices simply say if you are receiving a pension then it is not taxable (sometimes correct but more often not) so go away. This is why you need to read that introduction to at least understand the basics and make your own decision. However I repeat that currently there is no confirmed direct link between Thai RD and Immigration.
  23. Read the intro and or some more recent threads in the banking section. Only you can make the decision whether you need to or will file or not. However currently there is no link between tax payment/receipt and renewing an extension.
  24. I renewed my extension 3 weeks ago. No mention. Others I know the same and there have been no confirmed reports on here.
