  1. No it's not but it is a pain in the derriere and irritating for the reasons you mention. SCB app also tells me to switch off my vpn.........won't be long before they insist on data connection only and no wi fi........
  2. Are you saying that your bank checks your visa validity before making any transaction...... For people wanting to open a new account possibly but not my experience dealing with the banks I have accounts in.
  3. There is always a chance but what about people who have retirement extensions and spend less than 180 days a year actually in Thailand - and I know a few like that.
  4. I take it you meant "not" being taxed? I am also intrigued what @jaywalker2 has heard to make the statement he did..........
  5. Before or after Songkrahn...........
  6. I notice in the attached article the 10k baht digital wallet scheme is mentioned - along with 24/7 operation of Chiang Mai airport..............(which apparently started on Nov 1)
  7. I had to look this up as initially thought what is the interest in fishing online......... Thanks. At least I learnt something new
  8. And if have a non rooted phone and you really want to try and block many of the processes/apps that seemingly bypass privacy settings you could look at https://rethinkdns.com/ - the app is available from the Play Store. As well as a secure DNS resolver it uses the vpn to firewall apps/processes - so if you regularly use the vpn probably not ideal for you. You may or may not be amazed to see just how many connections it makes to the Play Store and others in the easy to read logs.
  9. Arguably if it was "income" (pension payment or whatever) received in the year it was remitted it has always been potentially taxable so that bit isn't new at all. Generally though the Thai RD, up to now, didn't chase up that money unless the individual brought themselves to the Thai RD attention in some way.
  10. laugh - no. However I agree things are changing. However due to some of your past posts that I have seen I have a problem taking anything you say seriously...... Pensions and especially 90 days.......you went too far there
  11. Agreed. I didn't even bother to consider that. I was amazed that in our moo baan the 2 gardeners with their side gigs (approved) are earning over 30k a month according to the juristic - otherwise we would not be able to keep them.
  12. I am guessing that figure comes from this (could be wrong) which was in a link at the end of the Thaiger article - However further down the article it then says this Ambitious.........
  13. Years ago there used to be quite a few "reports"about this happening in 7/11s and elsewhere. As you say asking to see the cctv normally resolves it.
  14. Thanks - yes last time I needed one it was 300 for 1 and 500 for 2 - I think if you don't pay it is more than a few days wait............
  15. Yes free even in Pattaya (which is what was being referred to ) as long as you are not in a hurry.......... Can someone from Pattaya confirm it is still 300 for one or has inflation taken hold?
  16. For what - nothing new there. Doesn't mention Gift Tax........ Note the word apparently"" in the below quote from the article you link. Speculation.......
  17. Apologies but do you need new batteries for the calculator.... -or have I missed something?
  18. I suggest you go back and look - I was not the poster who said that and was actually agreeing with you. An apology would be nice unless you can show me how I made a "false statement"?
  19. Maybe easy where you are from but if you had ever tried to open a bank account in the UK from Thailand recently you wouldn't give such a blase suggestion.
  20. I have no idea why you replied to my post with the above...... You hedging your bets here or what.....
  21. Avoidance is legal as opposed to evasion. One could argue that trying to change Thai tax regulations by changing a directive that has been in place for over 30 years and not changing the actual law is a little underhand...........is that right or a left wing thing..........
  22. What's the hurry........... Rule change planned to take effect from 1/01 24 which means it does not become applicable for most until tax returns fillable from 1/01/25. And before anyone says it I know that does not help planning but doubt the RD is concerned about that.......
  23. Have you not been following the mammoth "tax" thread or seen any of it's offspring......... https://aseannow.com/topic/1306896-thai-government-to-tax-all-income-from-abroad-for-tax-residents-starting-2024/ However even though the Thai RD has issued a couple of amendments to regulations there is still a distinct lack of clarity over how it will all work. One issue for example is the distinction between savings and income. Another is that trying to tax money bought in for property purchases is potentially shooting themselves in both feet. So whilst @koolkarl 's initial statement may not be 100% correct a warning that things may change is certainly warranted.
  24. Don't you still have to be there to have your picture taken or have they got round that now?
