I believe, and I could be wrong, that the one thing that impacts the taxes is that shipping costs are included when customs duty is calculated and then VAT is calculated on the total cost viz. item value, shipping cost & customs duty. They've gotta earn money for the govt someway. Then the profit margin is added for instore.

Why does it take so long to receive mail from Australia?
TigerandDog replied to giddyup's topic in Pattaya
that's not unusual. I've been here for 10 years and the quickest time for air mail to be delivered that I've either sent to Oz or received from Oz is 6 weeks from the date of posting. Longest is 12 weeks. Even registered mail takes around 4-5 weeks. -
similar with ttb bank, but up to date of request so the statement reflects the transaction for that day. Can get 12 month statement same day as requested for a fee of 100 baht. However, with CM IMM I have always downloaded and printed my own statements for the past 8 years and just ask ttb to stamp them. No issues at the bank with doing it that way and CM have always accepted them.

Trump appeal against ridiculous fine looks like a winner
TigerandDog replied to theblether's topic in Political Soapbox
even the legal eagles at Meidas Touch expect it to be reduced on the basis of EVERY appeal that has gone before the appellant court has been reduced. They're estimating that it will be reduced to within the range of $175m - $300m PLUS the interest. -
What did your parents die of?
TigerandDog replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
father - bowel cancer at age 35. mother - old age at age 92. Father's brother leukemia & bowel cancer at age 73, grandfather (dad's side) - bowel cancer at age 61, grandmother (dad's side) - old age at age 93. Me age 74 and still going strong and I'm a prostate cancer survivor, so every day is a blessing. So yes I do pay attention to my health. I'm not even close to being ready to part this world yet. I just checked my direct lineage in my family tree back 7 generations, most passed in their 70's. Apart from my great grandfather who passed at age 91, I'm the next longest living male in that 7 generations. -
did you actually read what I wrote " they did say when doing my next annual extension that I could change from O-A to O-X as long as I had the insurance and 3 million in the bank. I'm not entirely convinced that this is correct though." Perhaps it would be a good idea if you read and understood what was written before posting an irrelevant comment.

According to Siam legal it's also what is required for a 5 year O-A visa based on retirement. see this link from Siam legal. 5-Year Retirement Visa Thailand | Thai Immigration. However, after doing some more in depth research it would appear that Siam Legal are incorrect with their post with regards to the O-A based on retirement also being available for 5 years as the Thai Immigration website only makes mention of the O-A for retirement being for 1 year. Although I also telephoned my local IO with regards to this and they did say when doing my next annual extension that I could change from O-A to O-X as long as I had the insurance and 3 million in the bank. I'm not entirely convinced that this is correct though.

I agree that there is already a 5 year Non-Imm O-A visa for retirement in existence. The main differences that I can see between the 5 year visa and the 1 year visa is the funds. The 5 year visa requires 3 million THB in the bank compared to 800kTHB for the 1 year visa OR a monthly income of 100kTHB compared to 65KTHB and the mandatory health insurance is at the 400k/40k level. The question I'd be asking Immigration, if you have the 3 million, is would be possible to transfer from the annual extensions to the 5 year extensions and if so can it be done at the next annual extension?

yes he is but he's also answering most of the questions we have with regards to the various DTA's, e.g. I was advised by my tax accountant in Oz that my aussie aged pension was assessable and subject to taxation here in Thailand. As a result of viewing this video I now know that the advice received from my aussie tax accountant was wrong as Govt pensions from our home countries are assessable in Thailand but they are NOT taxable in Thailand, only private pensions are, and that seems to be the case with the DTA's mentioned in the video, viz USA, UK, Canada.. Australia & New Zealand. Of course there are differences with regards to private pensions, capital gains etc between the various DTA's and some workarounds are also mentioned in the video. At the very least this video has provided far more accurate information than any other video or post that i've seen to date.

Diving Koh Tao - question about Basic Open Water license
TigerandDog replied to heiri007's topic in Diving in Thailand
Have to disagree with you Mike about the vis. I did my Open Water and Advanced Open Water on Koh Tao at Crystal Dive Resort. Perhaps when you did your course the vis etc wasn't that great BUT when I did both my courses the vis was exceptional, some days up to 30 metres, but on average around 15-20 metres.. -
