  1. I actually have an electric mountain bike, which I charge from my home solar cells. No need for Issan, I live 10km from CM town centre and have a range of 50Km. No traffic problems, no parking problems, no electric worries, and a gas cooker with a spare cylinder. The worst that can happen to me, I lose power in the early morning if it's been raining for 2 days in a row and the grid's down.
  2. But it wouldn't have affected anyone with home solar and Gas cylinders. What it comes down to (in my mind), is you can't trust your government to provide utils any more. They've cut their infrastructure costs to the point they are no longer reliable. And they are so interconnected, that a minor problem will take everything out.
  3. You can buy 13Kwhr of battery storage in Thailand for around 30,000bht. No need to spend more on Tesla.
  4. Not that much point in having cash in the big city if the tills don't work, and you're stuck on a train. The clear thing I learn from this, is don't travel on anything that relies on the grid and keep a weeks supply of essentials in your home.
  5. Yeah, but she's not white and not male, so most of us wouldn't vote for her. Odd fact if you're white and won't vote for a non-white you're a racist. but if you're a non-white and vote for another non-white, you're sound! (obviously nobody is allowed to vote for a Jewish candidate)
  6. and stupid, and poorly educated ........... Or they could just complain too many pensioners (missing their winter fuel payments) are being allowed to vote.
  7. I don't worry about guns either ...... now sleepy bus, lorry or pickups drivers scare the hell out of me. What is thread about? Oh yeah, net zero taking out Spain, then dragging Portugal down with them, they got what they wanted, namely a clean but iffy grid. And building enough energy storage for a few more cloudy days than they expected will push up their unit prices 5-10x ....... enjoy! I'm in the same boat, 100% solar, but can only afford the storage for 1 night, 2 cloudy days in a row, and I too need to use the grid (normally for just 1kwhr).
  8. Yeah, but if they're both foreigners, they can't legally buy houses in Thailand, unless breaking the law. As for your diverse families, I'd rather mix with former sex workers than Chinese, Russians or Israeli. Hey, but it's a free world, everyone is allowed to have their opinions.
  9. So 10%, that seems about right to me.
  10. More like, most Thai sex workers have no access to home loans because they have no financial records or work history, so the foreign guys that marry them have no access to a mortgage either. Leaving two choices, cash or rent, and your much younger Thai bride ain't gonna stick around long without the free house. Obviously my much younger Thai wife is different, and married me for my rugged good looks, extraordinary intelligence, and amazing wit,
  11. 'Cos the foreign guys that marry the sex workers have the cash to pay for international schools. Than claim they never frequent bars, never pay for sex, and love Pattaya because its a family friendly resort. Then try to convince themselves they didn't marry a sex worker, and try to convince everyone else they didn't either.
  12. Just bought a Toshiba 15Kg top loading automatic, waited until Lazada sale day ....... Price dropped from 8,200bht to 5,800bht delivered. No delivery dates, says 30 days pre-order .... ask on customer chat when? .... reply made to order, wait. Delivered 2 days later FFS! Now it's sitting outside in the box, thought I had 30 days to clear a space to put it, and collect the hoses. Why do they always give hoses that are too short to fit anywhere? https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i4993755972-s21070789143.html
  13. There is no excuse for being impolite to your customers while at work. Be you a general or a shelf stacker.
  14. I've known 3 English speaking foreigners that could chat in flawless Thai (not central) All 3 were essentially broke beggars in Thailand. An American cowboy 60+ who lived off his mother and whomever he could scam. Kern yow my paw ...... My arm isn't long enough A British drug dealer also 60+, learned from his year in Bangkok jail. Men chip hai see wa ....... You make this place smell And a Nordic guy 50+ who'd been stripped bare when his Thai wife divorced him, and was living with a pretty working Thai hooker he dearly loved, but had no money to give her. Mare mung see ma see dam .......... Your mother xxxx xxxxx They didn't seen to have much success with local women, despite having perfect (if low class) communication abilities.
  15. If they're that unhappy with their jobs, they should be invited to seek work elsewhere. It costs them nothing to be civil and polite.
  16. I used to pass through KUL on my way to Manila. I remember the immigration lady at KUL asking how long I was staying, I replied 6hr while waiting for my connecting flight. She suggested I should spent longer as it seemed a shame to waste the 90 day waiver she was stamping in my passport. I was always impressed that immigration in there and in PI were so friendly to tourists (both places immigration ladies spoke perfect English), unlike Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam who were never at all friendly (and no English).
  17. Classic movie time The Ruling Class 1972 starring Peter O'Toole as an aristocratic madman. Q: when did you realise you were God? A: I noticed whenever I prayed, I was talking to myself!
  18. Sorry for the delay, just went out to ask my garden fairies how the world would be if everyone didn't believe in god ...... They just rolled around laughing, so not particularly helpful.
  19. Don't care, doesn't affect me, I still live full-time in the UK. I don't tell my government where I am or what I'm doing, they don't need to know. And before you start the moral high ground rant. I've never felt the need to be any more truthful/moral than the elected members of my government.
  20. No they can't, pension payments can't be reduced or stopped to recover past overpayments, you have to agree. That's the meaning of the non-sanctionable clause for the state OAP. But they could recover it from your housing benefit, winter fuel payment, or your Xmas payment.
  21. I wouldn't class Thai people as any examples of sanity/insanity for our western standards. Trying to relate their behaviour to our cultural standards just doesn't work. Not to mention, someone living their own life in accordance to the instructions of the fairies that live at the end of their garden probably shouldn't be proclaiming on the status of anyone else's mental health.
  22. How did they discover your 16 months in Thailand. And did you agree to pay them back, you can say no, they can't take!
  23. I think it says they didn't like Kamala. Nothing more. Publicly choose a better candidate (rather then trying to slip in another sock puppet at the last minute), and see how it goes, or choose no-one and enjoy Trumps continued support.
