15 month retirement visa no longer available?
jimn replied to cubism001's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
First sadly Ubon Joe passed away earlier this year. Secondly dont be rude to the people trying to help you. Thirdly the only way you can get 15 months is if you convert from a visa exempt entry or a Tourist Visa to a Non O visa in Thailand (3 months) followed by an extension of stay based on Retirement (12 months). Total 15 months. Subsequent renewals are only 12 months as you already have the Non O and you now have an extension of stay. To get this you can do it via an agent who will provide all the finance for a cost or you can do yourself with the required 800k in the bank. -
15 month retirement visa no longer available?

Sorry wrong person lol -
You really have a problem with the bar and entertainment industry here in Thailand don't you. What is your problem? You seem to assume that everyone who visits a bar is a sex tourist, this is way off the mark. I know many people who just come here to have a good time with friends, some even bring their foreign partners. Perhaps you can share why you hold such puritan views? How old are you? Where are you based? If in Thailand how long have you been here? Are you a non drinker? Do you visit church every Sunday? It appears to me your views are way off the mark. You will probably tell me to mind my own business, but it might help explain why.

We are quoting ages because this is the subject of the topic we are discussing. The reason I said its a grey area is because many people think the age of consent in Thailand is 15 and not 18 as it is between Thai and Foreigner. Is it not the expectation of a customer who visits a bar to assume a girl is at least 18 years old? But as we know this is not the case. The problem over here in Thailand is that many many girls especially the smaller ones look young and underage but are in their twenties. The problem with people like yourself is that you think you are morally right to lecture other people. Of course it is wrong to actively groom a young child under the age of consent especially if it then turns into something sexual. It is different if a tourist visits a bar and goes with a girl and she turns out to be underage. This goes back to my statement that its a grey area in the minds of the tourist, but I agree not in the eyes of the law. By the way, there is absolutely nothing wrong with meeting a girl in a gogo and marrying her. My wife is a diamond, she demands nothing from me and I certainly do not pay her a salary or anything like a lottery win.

Lol if thats the case then you can go and remove all the 15 to 20 year olds working in bars in Pattaya quite a high percentage by the way. Also all the Thai karaoke clubs across Thailand frequented by Thai men. My wife of 9 years was 19 when I met her working in a gogo, by that definition I am a criminal.

Not true. I visited Jomtien immigration a few weeks ago to change my extension of stay stamp to my new passport. Nothing was said about doing a new TM30. I have had one on file for about 7 years as I always return to my registered address. I have seen many scare stories of how bad Jomtien is now. That is not my recent experience. They have improved the way you get access to the different departments by issuing a ticket in an air conditioned separate building. I hear they have reverted to the old method of demanding all the photcopies and documents for a 90 day report, as I normally do online this is not an issue. However my next report will be with my new passport, I am hearing that I will have to do it in person. I will try online first as they have my new passport details so no reason why it shouldn't be possible online.

On that we can agree

No it doesn't, if you live somewhere you want the area to be clean and all the services available. To say otherwise is totally naive of you.

You miss my point as well. The fact he is a renter not an owner is irrelevant.

The fact that she owns property in the UK may actually not help her case at all. She will have to apply for the visa as a Thai citizen if she is in Thailand at the Trendy Building in Bangkok after applying online and paying the appropriate fee. She will be applying for a Standard UK visa of 1, 2, 5 or 10 year. She can stay up to 6 months in a rolling 12 month period if successful. She will have to convince the officer reviewing her application that 1. The trip is affordable 2. Convince them that she will not work etc 3. That she will return to Thailand or Vanuatu at the end of her visit. 6 months is a long time for a visit and they may consider the property especially if she is getting rent for it as income from work. I suspect it will not be easy to get a visa in these circumstances.

You miss my point. You said that if you rent you are not affected by people not paying their fees. Owners and renters are both affected. Maybe where you rent everyone pays so it dont affect you. I am lucky. I bought my house with my wife 10 years ago with a lifetimr transferable maintenace fee associated with the purchase.

Stupid reply thats just going to escalate into something out of control

You are effected just as much as a renter as an owner. Dont you care if security disappears, bins dont get emptied, swimming pool closes and the roads don't get swept?

Thats unworkable as it will build up and stick and attract rats.

multiple visa/passport issues/questions
jimn replied to fullofmax's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I got a new passport when I went to the UK earlier this year. My old passport with retirement extension in it was cancelled with edge cut off. I entered Thailand carrying old and new passports, they stamped my new one on entry. I filled in a form and went to Jomtien immigration and they transferred stamp and extension for free.- 1 reply

Whilst I understand the requirement to limit migration, this is a step too far. Whilst I have no plans to live permanently back in the UK, I would possibly wish to do so in the future with my Thai wife. At the moment a 10 year visa meets our needs for our yearly 4 month visit. But if in the future I want to bring my wife of 9 years back to the UK with me I cannot because my income is about £33,000. Absolute nonsense. Its being proposed to stop immigrants bringing family into the UK but it has a knock on effect to us born and bred in the UK.

You are digging a hole for yourself. A Non OA only available from own country requires insurance. A Non O available from own country or Thailand does NOT require insurance. Both can be used for an extension of stay based on Marriage or Retirement. Your original statement about retirement needind insurance is simply incorrect.
