  1. The last tally I saw was that 1.1 MILLION people had registered to grow. Obviously not all are growing today but still. And somewhere around 6,000 shops have been legally licensed to sell cannabis. No clue how many of the 35 million tourists might indulge, or what the local uptake is
  2. Not even close to the country record of 57, on Srinakrain Road a few years back.
  3. https://aseannow.com/topic/1273795-trouble-logging-in-to-lazada/?do=findComment&comment=19043208 possible fix here; https://aseannow.com/topic/1273795-trouble-logging-in-to-lazada/?do=findComment&comment=19043178 This might help you or someone. I could NOT log in from my PC as it kept saying my account was CLOSED! I was having a fit and can't call help at night. So, went to the app on my android phone and it instead said the account was FROZEN! To unfreeze it, I had to use the fingerprint sensor. That did it. Now it's not closed on the PC. Other than that, I do get kind of tired of these traffic light and crosswalk puzzles to log in, but this is the first time the CLOSED message appeared and Google was no help.
  4. Human Trafficking, with the imprimatur of the Thai government, who take their skim. Thai berry pickers in Europe — a case of the poor getting poorer https://www.nationthailand.com/special-edition/sustainability/40035574 https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=564112295243954
  5. I'm guessing you use a PC and the Lazada.co.th site? Do you use the mobile app? There may be some info under Messages, Alerts, Services. Example ! An UNUSUAL attempt was detected on your Lazada Account. My account is accessible on both a PC and the mobile app. Maybe there was some unusual activity on your account?
  6. BJT/Anutin has been pretty consistent on 0.2% for extracts - they don't want to expand the vaping trend - but for most medical applications extracts are required. You can't have a youngster with epilepsy smoking a fatty. And when BJT says they mean recreational.
  7. One of Big Joke's anti-corruption efforts when he was head of Immigration.... https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30355828
  8. It is the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, essentially the legislature for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, with a member from each of the 50 districts. The chat, which dates back to October 2020, discusses the offer of a position as a secretary to a committee member. The conversation outlines that although the secretary position offers a modest salary, it comes with royal honours from His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua https://thethaiger.com/news/national/foundation-chairperson-implicated-in-council-position-sales-scandal The "Royal Honors" thing is what is desired.
  9. She'll be back before the end of the year.
  10. I think there are quite a few steps to be taken before January 1, 2025. This was a committee that voted to recommend to ONCB that cannabis be reclassified as a cat 5 narcotic. So the ONCB must approve this resolution. Then the FDA must amend the cannabis laws. Seems quite convoluted, especially when compared to how easy it was for Anutin ( as Minister/MoPH) to decriminalize it with a simple document. I don't think there is any one person, with power/agency, who really wants to push this recriminalization through, in essence going against one of the five most powerful people in the Kingdom (Anutin).
  11. In their defense, they may mean that with the Bangkok Bank Mobile App, foreigners can only have one account associated with it? Were you eve able to manage two accounts within the mobile app? And then, at some point, you couldn't? That's just my guess. Surely someone associated with Bangkok Bank could address this multiple account issue?
  12. With all the problems facing Thailand it is disconcerting that they are spending so much time on this. If cannabis is a danger/threat to society just reclassify it NOW, with the stroke of a pen (by the Minister of Public Health), as a class 5 narcotic. Shut down all production, distribution and use. Start arresting and charging people. If cannabis is not a threat/danger to society, codify legalization in Parliament.
  13. He could turn water into wine in front of George, and it wouldn't be enough. Sorry to say that it's time to stick a fork in Joe, he's done. He had a good run, but he should drop out. I even have questions about him serving out his term.

  15. Yes, and they may only take Thai credit cards. Or they may add on a 3% uplift on the bill for domestic or foreign credit card use.. I was surprised JIB (new PC build, Advice will only take Thai credit cards) took a foreign credit card. Most of my medical and dental is paid with a foreign credit card. All three of my Visa cards do not charge any foreign transaction fees. BTW, are out-of-pocket medical expenses deductible on the Thai tax return, all or in part?
  16. I've had extensive contact, two visits, with my BBL branch over the past three weeks, updating passport information, new phone, new phone number, re-enabling mobile banking, photograph, and facial recording (center, left, right, blink a few times). They took my passport to a copier so I am unsure what they copied. But of the twelve signatures I had to provide, there was just the main/photo page of my passport which I was asked to sign.
  17. Yes, you are correct. No clue why I forgot this as I but a liter every time in the baggage claim area. I assume that is NOT possible on one of the five holy days NOW? But might be with this repeal. There was some talk about closing all King Power Duty Free shops. https://www.nationthailand.com/news/policy/40039344 For single malts in the 2,500 baht segment and up, the savings are pretty good. On average you pay the same or slightly less for 1 liter, as you do in town for 700/750. That is a decent savings.
  18. I think you, as an individual, have to decide what assessable income to declare when/if you file a tax return. Such remittances may represent non-assessable/exempt income. But I'm not sure there is a method to exempt them. I might direct my U.S. SocSec to a U.S. bank, then wire-transfer some/all of that to my Thai bank account. For me, ATM withdrawals come at the daily VISA rate, no home bank fees, and the local ATM fee (220 THB is refunded). For me, SWIFT transfers are free (but come to Bangkok Bank at their TT rate, and their 200 ~ 500 baht fee). Another challenge is foreign credit card usage. For which I might use Social Security "income" to pay off.
  19. I think Stephen Miller is underestimating the logistics necessary for mass deportations. Building internment camps, capturing undocumented people, transporting them (domestically), housing them, feeding them, finding countries to take them, and organizing charter flights, will be an expensive and arduous effort. While the target may be 15 ~ 20 million, he might be lucky to get to 1 million.
  20. I'm shocked. Positions for sale. In Thailand. Surely this is just one bad apple.
  21. Big upswing in both transshipment and local use of Ketamine. https://thethaiger.com/news/national/man-caught-smuggling-100kg-of-ketamine-worth-100-million-baht Crystal meth (Ya Ice) is also exploding on the scene. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/featured/2024/06/27/thailands-massive-drug-bust-41-rise-in-cases-over-9-months/ The drugs problem here will get a lot worse.
  22. As far as I can tell, the Senate "selection" process functioned as designed. Opaque, easily manipulated with the public not allowed any voice in candidate selection. Just another demonstration that the powers that be do not want the public involved in Thai-style democracy. BJT was much more "adept" than PTP. I'm sure we'll be hearing about the money that changed hands in return for a Senate seat, and the disputes over returning the cash.
