  1. They were still running classes and test online, only the big camping trip at the end was cancelled, normally the school should have organized his 'graduation' paper that exempt him from the draft
  2. no, if he already registered the year he turned 18 and came home with the sor dor 9 paperwork, then he'll go for the draw at 20, no need to turn up every year
  3. I'm okay with Automatic and Clutch, it used to be that I can never got the hang of the clutchless gears like on Honda Waves here and the likes, but once I got the hang of it, it's surprisingly very in control, you can still use engine braking and feather the 'clutch' with your heels unlike belt automatics, the wheels are bigger than automatics which rides better and any idiot in Thailand seem to be able to ride them
  4. Some of the coffee bun survived as kiosk in malls, once attitude changed and malls start becoming more accepting, we might see Cannabis shop in malls too, but smoking anything inside enclosed space is still illegal having somewhere to sit and sample the wares are gonna be a problem still outside of hotels and importers' own shop, there are hardly any specialist tobacco shop, so in the long run it's probably hard to justify renting brick and mortar shophouse just to sell some weeds.
  5. There's a genuine discussion to be had whether the current amount of shops selling cannabis is tenable, outside of tourist trap area, I doubt it is worth paying rent to just sell buds or joints
  6. I've seen some atrocious fit and finish on ASEAN built Volvos in Thailand, I think they're made in Malaysia? Anyway, Both Tesla and Volvo XC40 and C40 from China so far doesn't seem to have the glaring build quality
  7. what law exactly is being broken by standing on the beach at night? what evidence do they have that these 'ladies' were soliciting? could they've nab any tourist under the same pretense?
  8. Toyota and Mercedes has long has grey market in Thailand and the most they can say is that they won't let you use the dealer for a service, unless you paid up. While it is theoretically possible to import Chinese cars tax free providing you can get the Form O from the factory, some Thai individual had imported ORA before they opened for business officially in Thailand good luck getting Tesla factory in China to sell you RHD cars, How much cheaper would it have to be for you to put up with LHD cars with GB/T connector in Thailand
  9. I'll start, The whole European car price in Thailand has been artificially kept at high price to maintain the image of prestige and resell value, historically imported cars were taxed heavily but they kept the price high when CKD cars are assembled locally,( ignoring bonded manufacturing complexities they're still considered import from Europe even though made in Rayong but still, the price is too high) they kept going with the price to preserve the market, and now with Thai China FTA for EV, 'European' branded EV from China like the Volvo xc40 and BMW iX3 are still priced to maintain the legacy car market, ie artificially high as they can get away with. While you'd only need to look at other markets without the import car taxes like Australia or Europe or US to see that Mercs and BMWs don't cost 3 times as much as equivalent Honda or Toyotas, in the mind of Thais, the premium still holds The arrival or 'cheap' Teslas from China hopefully will shatters that perception somewhat, the average BMW and Mercs buyer are starting to question the value of 'European' Imports now And don't get started on the reliability of the Europeans and the warranty claim experience in Thailand
  10. the current DC fast charger along the highways by all providers in Thailand is 1 per spot, this has lead to queues and fighting at the charger, which will only get worse during the Holidays and as more EVs get delivered If Tesla show up with their supercharger with 5-10 spot, it'll be a game changer
  11. https://www.playbikeshop.com/ https://th-th.facebook.com/eightridar/ https://th-th.facebook.com/BikeOutletTH/ one thing about bike shop in Thailand is that there are 'Main Dealers' or Importers, who also has their own shop/showroom and probably has the best range of their products and slick looking website, but won't undercut on price with any 'mom&pop' dealers who distribute their products, so you'll get better price from the local bike shop
  12. Probably dating myself but I remembered when they first moved there from Ploenchit decades ago and until the late 90s the place was still respectable with embassy clientele and not overrun with the more colourful characters dealing in whatever. These days it's perplexing why any independent tourist would book a hotel anywhere in Nana, surely it's not that convenient and cheap
  13. you think they actually deliver the fake note? they could have asked for real cash and disappear, what's the buyer gonna do? report them to the police?
  14. If you remember to present the correct passport at the immigration counter, that's fine, only problem is at check in if the airlines check against the advance passenger information system and should you present the 'wrong' passport that didn't have the relevant visa to enter the country and the airline would refuse boarding/check in For coming to Thailand, where visa-exempt and visa on arrival and lax/welcoming policy this is not a problem most of the time and you can switch passport on the flight For dual nationals exiting Thailand, using just Thai passport at check in counter could raise alarm bell that this Thai passport holder don't have the relevant visa to enter western countries, but the Thai passport is still required for the immigration counter, so for exit, show the airlines counter both, then immigration the Thai passport, and after the flight if you're still stupid enough to use the Thai passport with no visa to enter your home country, you're beyond help
  15. a salesperson would have a 'margin' of what they can do with, usually they spend this on accessories they can get wholesale price on from windows tinting, floor mats to insurance, when shopping around you'd compare the value of these 'freebies' between dealership, as the amount is usually the same if you feel you don't need those things and can source them to your liking better, you can negotiate for a cash discount At the Motorshow the dealers have their people there are under pressure to meet target, both from the home dealership and the corporate car brand, and they're competing with colleagues from other dealership under the same roof
  16. to clarify, they'll also let you have 2nd meter with normal non-tou rate the same with the house, but the catch is that they have to be both on the same plan, so the 2nd meter is only good for case where you don't want to touch or rewire the existing house connection when they come to inspect it, so just run another meter from the pole to the charger and put it on the same account whereas PEA will let you have the 2nd meter be TOU while the main house on standard tariff, best of both world. The 2nd meter for just EV is probably for case where the existing meter is too small, if you already has 30(100)A meter and good wiring, just run the wire from the consumer unit to the charger, For people with smaller meter or older house, getting a separate meter is probably easier than to rewire the house to pass inspection in order to get upgraded meter,
  17. I wonder if enough people are doing this, would PEA disallow 2nd meter to be TOU while the main one is normal rate or if they have a clause when signing up that the TOU meter is for EV charging only MEA in Bangkok will only let you have 2nd meter if you switch the whole house over to TOU It's probably the same as exporting from Solar, as long as they don't see you doing it it's probably fine
  18. if one were to wire the house aircon to the EV TOU meter with a crossover switch for cheap rate at night, do you have to be careful with the grounding in case the TOU meter were taken of different phase wire of the pole?
  19. On the spectrum between RTGS and ภาษาคาราโอเกะ transcription I doubt anyone should care what system is in use, road sign and official place names barely use them consistently
  20. For a such in demand model, you'll be paying over the MSRP especially if you'll be paying cash instead of finance. Some out of town dealer around Bangkok that advertise online or sell the bikes online though Shopee and such might have some model lower than MSRP, they deliver, the delivery fee might be cheaper than what the local dealer are charging over MSRP As for servicing, They're supposed to accept service for all Hondas, but if you didn't buy from them, their schedule book could be 'full' whereas if you bought the bike from them they're more accommodating in fitting you in, plus in case of warranty claims that doesn't earn them any money. The worst case is that you have to go to Honda in Bangkok to get certain thing warranty work fixed if the local dealer isn't helpful.
  21. nope, Thai postcode is useless without street name, there can be same house numbers within the same postcode the slash are just subdivision of an old bigger plot of land or a room number in a condo, you can still have duplicate of house number
  22. covid extension was available then, and they were quite lenient, I'm sure they could have worked something out if he turns up any time in 2020 asking for covid extension saying that he can't fly home then even with a few weeks overstay because he didn't jump at the first chance to fix his situation or didn't know better
  23. Grand Centre Point Space is the hot thing amongst middle class Thais right now if you're into keeping up with the Somchais older resort-styled place like Centara Mirage or anything in Wong Amat is pretty family safe Even if you stick them all in the HIlton they'd only need to wander a few street to see where you've met their mother
  24. they tried UK-styled gatso with white lines on the road about 10 years ago, but has now since moved to cctv styled gantry that can read the speeds of all lanes of traffic on the motorway, some will even warn you if you're over the limit by flashing your picture on the screen with speed on the gantry the older styled ones that still needs to flash are used all over the country, the cctv ones seem to be only on motorways or where they can place gantry the mobile ones with checkpoints down the road is your equivalent of mobile van, there'd be a plod in the central reservation or on overpass with the camera radioing your plate to their colleague down the road, with the prevalence of fake plate or people throwing away the tickets received in the mail, having the checkpoint nab you for payment right away is easiest this probably is a good earner for the local plod, plus being mobile mean they can be in multiple locations to keep the populace vigilant
  25. they moved to the next Thai alphabet for that digit already, but agreed that the numbering sequence is weird, I'd have thought they'd exhaust the 2 thai alphabets behind the number first, but they had fixed the first letter at A from 1-9, only moving to B after the 9 was used up new cars now are at 1 or 2B, If it's the first alphabet that is changed least often then they should have put that in the leftmost like A9A-Z then B1A or whatever other way that would give a better indicator of age or corresponding year better than the current system
