  1. magnetic tape is still everywhere in the enterprise
  2. that's very simple - the target server just checks who owns the client's IP address, and if it is in a datacenter range instead of a home internet provider range then the server either blocks the connection or shows an error on a website "hey you use VPN lol". the IP ranges database is public, so if some website does not determine that you use a VPN - it only means that the website's owner did not bother to implement the IP check.
  3. not only a waste of money but also a loss of data. SSDs are highly sensitive to temperatures and lose data after several months being disconnected from the power source. The flash drive cells simply "discharge" over time losing their contents.
  4. the "anti-conspiracy-theorists" will dispute everything you write and any research report you link because nothing confirms your claims. they will not believe and will make up an excuse even if Google CEO will say on TV "yes we do spy on you". so to save your time and for the peace of mind just ignore the "anti-conspiracy-theorists" and do not reply to their posts.
  5. you are getting a SIM card preloaded with a special tariff with 12 months validity starting from the date of activation. once it arrives you need to activate it to enable the tariff. hard way: download DTAC app, try to make it accept your passport and selfie, enjoy. easy way: go to the nearest DTAC office and have the staff activate the SIM for you, enjoy. depending on the exact tariff it may also require a minimum top-up (e.g. 20 baht) to activate the internet, after activating the SIM with your passport data. and for the next 12 months you will not need to pay anything else except that initial 1390 baht SIM card price, and possible 20 baht single top up. highly likely you will not be able to prolong that special tariff after 12 months and the SIM will become a "usual" SIM which you will be able to use only with a "usual" much more expensive internet packages.
  6. I've got my Paypal account permanetly blocked shortly after moving to Thailand and trying to buy something on Ebay. The Paypal support said something like "you have to register a new account with address in Thailand instead of adding an address to your old account".
  7. Is this yet another "cheap chinese storage" thread?
  8. Crawling in my skin These wounds they will not heal Fear is how I fall Confusing what is real ????
  9. Hi Cryptopunk, please recommend a bank that allows remote registrations (i.e. from Thailand) and allows to send wire transfers to cryptocurrency exchanges and receive wire transfers from cryptocurrency exchanges.
  10. @scubascuba3 @Mickeymaus https://aseannow.com/topic/1174821-dtac-unlimited-internet-data-plan-12callais-unlimited-internet-data-plan-true-mobile-unlimited-internet-data-plan/?do=findComment&comment=17668348
  11. You could not transfer such and even smaller amounts from anywhere to anywhere else without any restrictions and headaches. The largest hurdles are going to be with your home bank. You could tell the bank that it is "for long term living purposes", or to buy property (show them any condo/house purchase contract). The Thai banks usually don't care as long as the sender and receiver names are same. If you send from a different name questions may arise.
  12. more than four months https://aseannow.com/topic/1263948-isp-technical-support-contacts-needed/ I did not check with other ISPs but AIS has huge connectivity problems between Bangkok and Singapore, which results in high pings and low speed.
  13. I've used LocalCryptos sometimes, was very happy with it and recommended it to everyone, but unfortunately it's closing down. https://blog.localcryptos.com/after-5-years-localcryptos-is-saying-goodbye/
  14. after half a year of war and sanctions targeted at the usual Russian citizens they finally decided to target someone who is actually related to the Russian government. good job USA, and very timely!
  15. btw I've just recalled one funny thing about "OEM Unlocking" - if you have purchased one of the abovementioned ~20 phone models that have this option in the developer tools, you still could have this option blocked by the mobile phone provider. google for "pixel oem unlocking grayed out" and enjoy reading.
  16. are you connecting directly (i.e. within Thailand), or through a VPN somewhere outside Thailand?
  17. don't you realize that it is "down there" on _your_ particular phone model and there are like 20 similar models total, out of tens of thousands that do not have such option? lol, your link recommends to install chinese malware such as "kingo root" and "kingroot". I do not know about other apps except "Towelroot", but suspect they are malware too. Also about "Towelroot" - initially being a totally legitimate root exploit, it is usually bundled with malware.
  18. I went to Developer options, and there is no "OEM Unlocking" option. Checked with 3 different smartphones. Get a bit of sense before replying on subject you know nothing about.
  19. the topic starter asked about _legal_ challenges, but I do agree with your post ???? a restaurant business has like 1% chance of becoming successful.
  20. It's impossible. workaround: rent a cheap VPS in Singapore (or expensive one in Thailand) and set up a VPN
  21. then, to further add to the gist of the topic, I should tell everyone that one shouldn't buy a "privacy", "freedom-respecting" and whatever else phones such as Librem5 or Pinephone because mobile Linux OS is not suitable for daily use yet (and most likely never will) stick with usual smartphones that could be reflashed with a custom Android OS such as LineageOS or GrapheneOS.
